i need help guys with GSR swap
well here is the situation guys.Yes I am a noob and please dont burn me too bad.I am really determined to do this swap and i want to get it done right but i also want to gain the knowledge and experience of doin it myself,so please dont say take it to a shop....so here is the situation.I have a 99 civic DX coupe.I am swapping in a 99 GSR motor with a 94 GSR head on it...ported and polished. My problem is coming to a solution for my wiring and ECU.I got an obdII p72 with the motor but it will not work with the stock harness because it is a 99 and has the obdII version 2.So what is going to be the easiest and most cost efecient way to do this?i have heard suggestions of going with an ECU from a 99-00 Si but then wiring harness also has to be changed to that of an Si?Can someone please just help me out here and let me know if i can solve this problem with just one or the other ECU or harness....and my motor did not come with a harness either just so that is cleared up....please help me out guys...email me at jb_highroller@hotmail.com or reply on here....thanx in advance

Re: i need help guys with GSR swap (boostedblack99)
hmm well i've read a lot about how people do swaps around in HT but I haven't gotten around to motor swapping myself yet. The head is OBD1 and the block is OBD2, so I dunno how that's gonna work out with the ecu. If it were all obd2 like how your 99 coupe is already set up to be, then I think from what i've read, all you need to do is add vtec wires etc... I think, but I'm not 100% sure cuz I've never done a swap before. Gonna do one soon but haha I need a motor first. I'm just gonna find an all OBD2 for my swap so it'll be easier. I think you'll probably need an OBD2 ecu if you're planning to use your stock DX harness.

Since you have a 99, the ECU plug style is usually referred to as OBD2.5. The 96-98 Civic has OBD2 and they changed it slightly in the 99-00 models. I would use the OBD2 components on the motor: distributor and injectors. Reuse your stock harness and everything will plug in for the most part but you'll need to add the extra wiring for the VTEC solenoid and pressure switch, knock sensor and secondary IAB.
If you want to spend the extra $ you could also get a 99-00 Si engine harness to make the swap a little easier. Since you never got a harness with the motor, the Si harness would come in handy since you don't have any extra plugs or wiring to use. Get an OBD2.5 to OBD1 ECU adapter and use a 94-95 GSR OBD1 P72 ECU. This will make less wiring and better power and tuning. Don't use the 99-00 Si ECU or a chipped P28 for the GSR motor.
