Wtf, you have to remove a motor mount to put on an intake? There's gotta be an easier way.

Yea that sounds wrong to me too.

Kinda reminds me of a time at a car show when I saw a kid put his car on 4 jackstands and remove his wheels to install an intake he had just purchased.

and why do you have to drain a half-gallon of coolant?

Default Review

I just got back from my shop, strapped the new hybrid intake on.

The installation was very smooth and easy. The motor mount replacement was not that bad. The reason why you need to replace the motor mount is to allow the intake pipe to go further down past the engine and tucked underneath the bumper, where the stock airbox was. The stock mount was thicker, whereas the repalement is thin. Draining the coolant is for the water bypass valve, which i am not using so i didnt need to drain 1/2 the coolant. Install time was about 40 minutes, most time consuming part was removing the motor mount and the bolt that had to be taken out via a vise and a big breaker bar.

The sound of the GSR is much more 'sportier' for lack of a better word. It sounds much better to me, and VTEC never sounded better coming from my car. I notice a little pick up compared to the short ram i used to have. The Intake looks sharp, just my style. Not chrome or flashy. My one concern is the filter will have to be cleaned frequently, it was awfully dirty down where it sits.

AEM did a great job on the this hybrid intake, deffinitly worth the $197 shipped i paid. And it sure as hell beats cutting and modding a pipe to fit in there.

Here are some pics i took right after the install, sorry for the bad quality but it was dark outside and the digital camera wasnt the best.

What a stupid design. Why didn't they make the pipe go down the airbox whole like my dx pipe does? I was thinking of buying one, but I think I'll stick with my dx one or just get a short ram.

christ like there is a difference if it goes thru the stock hole or not. the pipe is too big to fit in it anyways. and are you guys seriously bitching about a damn engine mount? it took 15 minutes to replace, unscrew four bolts and ur done. that seems a lot easier to me than cutting and bending my own pipe to get it to fit. and payin 200 shipped as opposed to 270 retail wasnt that bad for this. hell if i had a shitty civic engine in there then yeah id find one for much cheaper, but this is the cleanest looking intake period for a hybrid. and its significantly better than my old short ram, looks cleaner and sounds great.

i agree with Hyb. I dont see what the problem is with changing the engine mount. It's a nice quality product, and it is way better than cutting your own pipes to make it fit.

I onwed a Mazda 6s and to put on my injen intake i had to take my whole front bumper off and the one side front panel off to put it on... i miss my mazda that thing was fast too bad i had to get T-boned by a f-250 at 50mph. im lucky im still alive tho since it hit 12 inches behind my door

holy ****! yeah thank god you're fine.

on a lighter note, removing the bumper and a panel would have been a lot more time consuming to do than switch a motor mount. this install is cake

you paid 200 for a peice of pipe? i remember i bought a cold air intake for my 98 civic ex for 109 dollars 5 years ago.... I thought that was expensive, and then i chopped it all up and re used it as charge piping for my current turbo setup.

i piece of pipe costs a couple dollars at home depot.

only reason i forked over 200 was because it fit perfectly with perfect welds and a nice finish. and aem offers the only hybrid intake atm. sorry but cutting and bending my own pipe wasnt too appealing to me. if i had a stock setupid then im sure i could find a pipe for less than a 100 to put in.

damn its not like i strapped a piece of alumuminum to my trunk.

and congrats on ur turbo, id love to see it sometime.
