Default How reliable and how much WHP???

Im considering doing a slimple LS/Vtec setup on my 94 RS with the b18b.

Hear is what Im considering:
b16a2 head, manifold, TB
Portflow inter springs
GSR cams
Skunk 2 cam gears
LS rods(shot pinned, APR rod bolts)
b16a pistons (should be about 11.3:1 compression)
new rings
GSR block girldle (modifed to fit on b18b block)
P28 ECU w/mugen chip (for now until I can get Hondata stage 2)
C-speed LS/Vtec oil line kit

Am I missing anything? I will also be running a DC 4-2-1 header, AEM CAI, and 5Zigen fire ball catback. Will this setup be reilable? Would it be safe to take to 8500rpm when I am racing(not very offten)? About how much WHP could I exspect when tuned w/Hondata? And would it be enough to get me into the high 13's with drag radials? Thank for any oppinons and thought you guys may have!

I dont think those gsr cams will make power up to 8500, but you should see around 170 whp and about 120 torque if you build it right. It should be a pretty reliable set up. Good luck.

So I should probably stay with the GSR redline of 8000RPM? For building it, I cant be without my car for more than 2 days, so I plan on just pulling the old pistons and rods out while the engine is still in the car and droping the new ones in. I will drop the oil pan and windage tray, then just go one rod and piston at a time so I dont get anything mixed up, then transfer the current rod bearings to the new rods then tap the piston in and torque the rod bolts down to spec. Same with the block girdle. I will pull the 3 center main caps, tranfer the current bearings to the girdle, then instal and torque the girdle down to spec.

Does anyone know how long it take to brake in new rings?

Oh yeah, I forgot to add a Vtec oil pump and pick up to my list.

I would suggest getting some ctr cams later down the road. Make sure you plasti-gauge those rod bearings. Also, do you plan on pulling the crank out? I would highly suggest you pull it out and have everything balanced. How many miles are on the ls motor? Are you not going oversized? And recomended break in is 1000 miles.

It has 91.XXX miles on it right now, and runs strong. No, I do not plan on pulling my crank out. I want it to be as simple as possible.

Would there be enough piston/valve clearance using the stock b16a piston and CTR cams?

I only plan on running this bottom end for a year or so. At that time I will either decide if I want to keep with the N/A thing or go FI. Either way I will fully build a block w/GEM sleeves(either N/A at 86MM or FI at 84mm).

Piston to valve clearance will be fine with those pistons and cams. I just hope your rings seat right with that many miles on your motor.

Don't forget to change the oil pump to a GSR unit!
