its not impossible to hone frms, you just have to follow the right steps (helms). i'm wondering how you did yours?

its cool that you have access to a machine that can hone at 45-50 rpm. thats the only thing that really makes it hard since most hones usually dont go down below 150 rpm or so...

I second that. They can actually be bored out to 87.5. Any further gets into the reinforcing fibers. This little fact brought to you from the Tech Team at Mahle Motorsports.

In order to properly hone any H series motor you have to use an aluminum honer. If you use a regular honer, it doesnt work. Ive taken a short block to a machine shop that had no idea you were suppose to use an aluminum honer and the cylinders have the shape of egg shells.

i'm getting ready to buy some mahle pistons from 98h22, but they are .20 oversized.

Based, on what you guys were saying, you can't bore out the sleeves the same way you would normally bore a b-series, right? A machine shop would have to know what they are doing? Hmmmmm, <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by O RLY &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

so, i should be fine having only to bore to 87.20mm right?...ACCORDING TO mahle.

I down to try this **** out.... but boring out is worrying me

Wrong conversion will throw off the boring and ruin your day. 20 thousand = .5mm so u should bore ur cylinders to 87.5mm (target/final size), but don't forget you have to leave a few thousands for honing. So final bore before honing should be around 3.442 - 3.443" (87.427mm -87.45mm), honing will take off about .002-.003" (depends on how many passes) then u should be close to your final size of 87.5. Usually when the sizes are .10,.20,.30. etc they are in thousands not mm. MM are expressed in .25,.50,.75, and so on

Yes, ive already done a couple with 230+whp on pump through the exhaust on a dynojet all motor. The cars are daily driven with plenty of abuse. No problems at all, everything went very smooth. I debur the edges on the pistons though, the high comp mahles have very sharp edges.
