home maid pvc pipe intake??
anyone try this. Just getting a 3' pvc pip and with a 45 degree elbow or something and a k&n. I have a 2000 jdm itr motor. Want to get a apexi dry-element filter and connect it to a pvc pipe to see how it works. They also have 4' diameter pvc pipe any one think I should try that? Would a 4' pipe work better then the 3'. I have 4-1 headers and rs&r exhuast. Lets me know what you guys think. Give any ideas you have too. I going to try it. any suggestions?

pvc pipe is supposed no good... the air will heat up the plastic, and the gases released are said to be toxic to the motor

Go to your local ricer shop (i'm guessing you've been there) and buy some 3" aluminum elbows if you want to make something custom.
If your going to do anything with PVC pipe then please... sell that ITR motor and buy more stickers.

Bhahahaha LOL you don't deserve that motor for even asking that question. Rob

Please do not do that! Simply use the stocker air intake/filter setup and remove the lower portion of plastic inside the wheel well. MOST cold air intakes are a joke!
The only intake that I have seen and heard works to increase HP is AEM.
All this is only my opinion so take it for what it's worth!

dont listen to these band wagoners...
pvc is fine for intake, just not charge pipes. they will work as charge pipes, but you'd want to get ABS(similar to pvc, just a higher temp tolerance)
pvc is nasty when melted on you exhaust manifold, but if its purely fot a CAI, youll be fine. just dont open your hood.

might also consider 3" exhaust tubing.
I'd just look at the pipe & glue to check max working temperature.
In auto design, we consider max underhood temperatures to be 125C/257F for most purposes.
If the temps are ok, then go for it.
If you haven't done lots of plumbing work before, keep in mind there are different types of PVC pipe. SChedule 40 is much stronger/heavier, for pressurized systems. DVW(Drain/vent/waste) is thinner and lighter, should be ok for an intake(non force induction). The fittings also need to match the type.
Debur the ends and put a slight chamfer on them before you glue the joints, too, makes it go together better.
Me, I'm making mine from a K & N kit for a 2000 civic & some exhuast tubing. I got the k & N free from a friend, so I'll just kludge it up to make it fit my CRX..
$60k a year? I make $75k...

Re: home maid pvc pipe intake?? (turkdog)
You said you wanted to get an "Apex dry element filter" You mean the all stainless steel filter? I would NEVER run one of those on any street car. Even K&N filters do not filter as well as a paper filter. An all stainless element cannot have holes small enough in it to filter well while at the same time let plenty of airflow through. You would be surprised how much crap can get through one of those apex stainless steel filters......stay away.
