Help Needed! Car wont pass BAR inspection!
sold my friend my car(1996 civic EX) about a year ago, has a 98-99 LS swap in it, i never got it BAR'd. He went to get it BAR'd today and they told him the wrong ECU was in the car. When i bought the swap from a wrecking yard they gave me the ecu that was to be for that engine. It turns out that the ecu says on it 96 LS not 98 or 99 (written in pen from the wrecking yard). I always thought that the ecus were the same from 96-99 and different in 00-01? What should i have my friend do? As of now they are not passing the car because of this everything else checked out fine. TIA

The only thing I can think of is you are using a federal emissions ECU and are in need of a California emissions ecu. There is a difference, you know?

the 96-97 ecu's are the same and the 98-99 are the same. the car should of passed with a 96 ecu since the car is a 96 itself.

Except the ref doesn't car what year the car is in this case. The ECU must match the engine that sits in the bay. Not the chassis that it resides in.

Just find somone with a newer ecu and barrow the cover or the complet ecu. Not positive on the jumper but I am sure they will turn you away. Or have your buddy call them and ask if the use of a jumper harness ok or not cause its not worth going to them and being turnd away because of it.
