Default Help important SWAP coming up >>>

Hi I am doing a swap from a '97 Integra LS (B18B1) to a '92 Civic CX (B15B8 - Canadian MFG for USDM)

I am trying to go OBD-1 because I heard it was easy and better. (less hassle)

1)Use existing 1992 CX Chassis wiring harness.
2)Use a 1995 or below ECU from GS/LS.
3)Use the existing Engine Wiring Harness from 1992 CX onto 1997 GS/LS Engine ?
3)Use an OBD-1 Distributor or modify/repin the wiring on the existing one.
4)Add OBD-1 Injectors, OBD-1 Alternator, Right ???? (Does not sound right)
5)Add a few wires for the Knock sensor and EVAP system. (Do I have to ? )
6)Use O2 sensor from the manifold/header on 1997 LS/GS.

What am I missing for OBD-1 ? Besides the obvious like axles.

1)Use existing 1992 CX Chassis wiring harness.
yup. perfect.
2)Use a 1995 or below ECU from GS/LS.
Use a 94-95 P75 LS/GS ECU
3)Use the existing Engine Wiring Harness from 1992 CX onto 1997 GS/LS Engine ?
Either one will work. I would reccomend using the 97 LS Engine harness, since it will just plug right in. If you use the CX harness, your going to have to extend 4-6 wires to put it on the LS swap. I know I've done it both ways.
3)Use an OBD-1 Distributor or modify/repin the wiring on the existing one.
If you use the LS engine harness, you can use the LS distributor. All the wires match and it works perfect. If you use the CX harness, your going to have to find an OBD1 LS/GS distributor.
4)Add OBD-1 Injectors, OBD-1 Alternator, Right ???? (Does not sound right)
Leave everything on the engine how you got/get it. The engine harness plus into all your accessories, like alt, starter, injectors, and also plugs right into your chassis harness.
5)Add a few wires for the Knock sensor and EVAP system. (Do I have to ? )
You won't need to add any wires. You'll have an extra hose on your evap cannister which you'll want to just tuck out of the way. The B18B1 doesn't have a knock sensor, so no wiring needed their either.
6)Use O2 sensor from the manifold/header on 1997 LS/GS.
OBD1 and OBD2 o2 sensors are functionally the same. I say use the newer one that is matched with the motor.

I put a 1998 B18C1 swap into my 1993 VX before I went B18C5. The 1996-1998 OBD2 engine harnesses have the same plug style and pinouts (on the chassis side) as the 1992-1995 harnesses. Thet's why you can literally leave all the OBD2 stuff on the engine, drop it in and plug it up and go.

However if you live in CA and want to ref this thing, You will need to converto to OBD2. I've done that too, it's a royal pain in the *** . . . .

email me if you have further questions.

So "JEFF", I think you've cleared up a lot out of my head, thanx !!!

All the other forums were not getting me anywhere, and I think they were just guessing 1/2 the time. So to be brief, leave the '97 Integra's engine and it's wiring alone and it will plug straight into my 92 (CX) civic's wiring harness once I drop it in + use a 94-95 P75 ECU.

Oh, and use the exisiting '97 LS/GS Exhaust Manifold's O2 (which should be the primary O2 on any engine) toplug in the connector RIGHT ?

I know cars well around just all this new OBD-1 & OBD-2 stuff thowing me off. People just make it difficult sometimes you know. (venting)

Man you've been a lot of help, since I am doing swap on my own at friend's shop. Thanx >>>

PS: Do you know anyone that's willing to get their hands dirty and help with my swap ? (joke)

I just did this a month or so ago. Check out these pics:

http://www.honda-perf.org/pics/B18C1EG/matt/

Yeah, believe it or not, it really is just that easy. Of all the swaps I've done, B18B into EG is *definetly the easiest*. You don't have to touch a single freakin wire. Just plug the engine in, plug the ECU in and your done.

Oh and the o2. The primary 02 plugs into the engine harness, not the chassis harness. So use the 97 o2 and plug it into the 97 harness. Easy, huh?

Good luck on the swap. I you want to waste a bunch of time reading about my first swap, read this. There's a few good tips to be captured from it . . .

http://www.b-20.net/other/swap/

If you were a little closer, I'd reccomend someone who is currently doing swaps out of his garage for real good prices. He and I work together, we've done two complete swaps in a single day before . . .

Sac's a little far for me.

If you get stuck on something, give me a page . . . 408.989.4119 I'm always willing to help.

HTH
Jeff

Very nice !!! Nice work guys !!! I think I may wanna borrow a digital camera for my swap now !!! Then post a few on the web for everyone to learn.

Sorry I used to live in Sacramento (Cali) now I live in Ohio, I know but it's work related move.

Good thing I have a freind to lend me his "shop/junkyard" for free, he owns it. I allready ordered a HELMS book for the TEG too in case of ?

If you guys need some stuff be sure to let me know see what I can do for you on some prices from his yard. He's gotten a few TEGS in the past with Turbos still bolted on and stuff like that.

Yeah this one 1995 GSR he sold about 3 Weeks ago had a slight rollover and the Insurance took a loss on it; I checked it out and still had a GREDDY Turbocharger/Intercooler/Blowoff valve, etc (You name it-the works).

But I was out of town when he sold it for a mere $4500 the whole damn car!!! I then saw the Engine swaped into a 1995 EX Coupe from this little Dominican guys last week, damn it looked nice. They took the whole engine out cleaned it polished it to a silver finish and were getting ready to finish the Turbo.

" 94-95 P75 LS/GS ECU "

Does it matter if ECU is AUTO vs. MANUAL one ???

Hey "JACK" what would happen if I tried to use the A/C from the 1997 GS into my 1992 CX ? Or will it not fit into the car ? I heard the A/C comp vs the 5th Gen A/C's are different in size & length, Is this true ?

Since my 1992-CX never had A/C nor the Lines to run A/C, is this just as easy to transfer into the 1992 CX Hatch ? Or do I need to make some slight Mods ?

While on this subject is my 1992 CX Pre-wired to handle the A/C switch inside the Console Panel or will I need to refer to a Helms book on this ?

It will be tuff on your car to add a/c

I'm not sure if the logicon has the conductors in the harness for the the ac.

The eg compressor is meant for a civic mount or delsol dohc mount.

the various harness's and lines will need to come from a eg because the teg lines are routed differently

the evap. under the dash can be used from a DC or EG.......all in all. a tuff job.

Sounds like I better get hold of a Helm's book to study it and it's prespectives of such modification >>>

Just got a Helm's book in. Looks like the A/C option is easier than I thought.

I think the Swap is nearing s I better have of this stuff ready. I'll try to rembember and take some pick for you to see the final results.

Againt thanks to "Jeff" & "Jack" for the clarification.

I'm reading the Helms book and it says that the AXLE Nut should be 22MM Nut not a 32MM like some people on these SWAPS are saying. Why is there such difference ?
