HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec
here is a link to the other thread
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2138255
but the car isnt throwing any cels. I am currently using a p30 with a phearable chip with h22 map, disabled knock sensor, yada yada....
I cant figure it out.
it has the obd2 - 1 jumper harness on it, and there is 2 wires that the PO lead into the obd1 side of the harness, one is the vtec solenoid, and the other is also some vtec sensor, if I unplug either of them I instantly get a cel....
please help me figure this out

Re: HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec (h22ek9forme)
so after some research, I found out that a dented oil pan can lower the pressure or cause problems with the pick up, intern not giving enough oil pressure to engage vtec.
turns out my car has a baseball size dent in the lower front of the pan.
I am kinda thinking this is the problem since everything else seems to be fine.
also, when cold starting the car the oil light stays on for awhile.
I relize being cold will take longer to get to the correct oil pressure, but I cant imagine the light coming on is a normal thing.
so that also helps add to the suspicion of the dented pan.
I have now tried 2 different computers, 1 of them being chipped w/ crome, uberdata, and now (the best by far) phearable chip, but I just dont have vtec.
I noticed most people who have had problems with dented oil pans and vtec, still get vtec but just not the way it should be, but they still have atleast some signs of engagement
would you guys think pulling off the pan and tapping it back out would be the next step? I just am soo tired of doing all these things that soo many people had fix their problems and nothing happens for me.
all your help and responses are verry appriciated

after looking at it, the dent really isnt much at all,
I doubt you could even consider it a dent.
I am sooo lost.
I tested the solenoid and it clicks like it should.
there is no CEL's!
so I dont know where to go...

hook a test light into the sol plug and take the car for a drive.
lack of oil pressure should throw a pressure switch code after the vtec fails to engage.

did you check the circuit with a test light yet?
VTEC circuitry and operation is quite simple.. I really dont know how much people can really help you. Find definitive answers for the wiring and oil pressure (not just guesses), post your results and go from there. Seems like you already eliminated the ECU as the problem.
VTEC needs a few things: oil pressure, speedo signal and the engine has to be somewhat warm.

yes, but temporarily because it draws extra current away from the solenoid. It's the best way to check the circuit IMO.
Completely unplug the solenoid, plug in the test light in and go for a drive.
Do not hook up a switch! let the ecu do the work.

Re: HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec (2point2)
well before reading this thread I actually just wired up a switch to the sloenoid, and drove it and I would be full throttle in any gear flip the switch and nothing happened... I know I had it wired right because I heard the solenoid lick when I flipped the switch before I went to drive it,
the car was throwing a code when I had the switch wired up but it was code 21 for the solenoid, I am really lost, I changed my oil today, and looked at the oil pan again, It could be dented enough, but IDk I took some pics of the pan, I will post them here in awhile.
this is fustrating, I am going to also do like you said and hook up a light.
thanks for your help, I will keep you updated

Re: HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec (h22ek9forme)
has this motor ever been apart? as in head taken off or apart? check all the pins in the rockers and the 2 pins that are under the cam caps. make sure you have all of that or no Vtec! if you are jumping the solenoid off a switch and you can hear it click but no vtec then you have a problem somewhere else. like i said has is ever been taken apart? and even then i'd pull the cams out and check if all the pins are in there.

Re: HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec (h22crxpwr)
^ thanks for the tips.
I just got the car about a week ago. I am not sure if it has been apart or not.
I could have been.
I will try the light, that should verify the wiring,
and then start looking into the head
with the way its acting and everything I have tried I wouldnt be suprised if something in the head was wrong.
thanks again.
hopfully I can get this figured out.
and just for fun here are a few pics of the car....

clean car... for sure if you bought it that way it might be missing the pins in the head. just one missing and No vtec... happened on mine. got the head back from the machine shop and they lost one. which i didn't notice. put it back together and no vtec. wired the solenoid to a button and still no vtec.. had to take the cams out and noticed one pin in the rocker assmbly missing.. put a new one in ...and Vtec back!!!

Re: HELP!! h22 swap NO vtec (h22ek9forme)
well. just another thing about the car.
the engine is really loud.
like alot of valve noise, I am not sure if it is something specific, it just seems really loud.
loud enough to bother me. I am curious if there was something wrong in the head like mentioned, if I would be able to hear it.
