Default Help!!! EX motor in a 1992 Civic

I have a 1992 Honda Civic HB and I going to swap a D16Y8 (EX) motor into the car. I still have my old (blown) D16z6 (EX) motor. I was wondering what is necessary for the swap. Can I use anything from the old motor? Does the ecu, shift linkage, tranny, etc work?

Yes, you can use the distributor from the Z6, as well as the fuel injector harness plugs to conver the y8 to obd1. also use the p28 with that, and the y8 will go right in.

Wouldn't it be necessary for him to convert to OBD2 if he did the entire swap? I was thinking of swapping heads for the better flowing Y*, but figured I would have to change over to OBD2 to do so.

nope...the z6 dizzy will not work. Just rewire the d16y8 Dizzy w/ the obd1 plugs. I used a D15b8 distributor and it works fine. You use all the stock mounts, they all bolt up. You also need the Alternator and injectors from the z6. Use your stock ECU, linkage, and transmission; they all work.

Correct, although you can use it with some creative cuts, grinds and failure to general safety. Rewiring the OBDII distributor with the OBDI plugs and then using all of the other OBDI parts would be the best way to go. Stick to the OBDI components for better performance and it will make the wiring much easier.
Just reuse the driver's side mount and bracket from your stock motor on the Y8. Reuse your axles, shift linkage, transmission and engine harness. Replace the injectors and alternator on the Y8 with your stock parts, then rewire the Y8 distributor with your stock plugs and use your P28 ECU. Everything should fall into place and the only wiring that will be necessary will be at the distributor.

Thanks a lot, this will save me some money! Let me get this straight though... I can reuse from the old motor (z6) the ecu (p28), shiftlinake, axles, distributor(d15b8 will work fine), motor mounts(recommended to use the driver's side left bracket from y8 though), alternator, injecotrs, and tranny. Thanks again.

nope...you can't use the d16z6 distributor...you can use the d15b8 (Cx) distributor. The Z6 is different mounting wise. Or you can use the D16y8 distributor but you will have to rewire it for OBD1. Just to clarify.

No you will replace the Y8 driver's side mount bracket and mount with the one from your Z6. Also reuse the Z6 tranny mounts and rear bracket. Basically just use all the mounts and mount brackets from the Z6 on the Y8

I also used the D16y8 Drivers side mount bolted to the engine...It bolted up perfectly w/ the D15 bracket.
