Technically it only drinks antifreeze.
Most of the time hoses & seals are to blame, not the headgasket. Most leaks aren't directly to the ground, and it takes 10-15 minutes to pressurize the system at idle so they're usually hard to find. In reality a steady drip will happen while driving, and if it doesn't evaporate on a hot part it will be shed off from movement/vibration. Sprinkling baby powder near all hoses & seals will help, any area that gets a drip will change color. Keep in mind a lot will fly off if you do anything but low-speed driving.
I recently had a water pump that had a heavy drip because of a reused seal & missing bolt, and it only leaked when the motor was hot. When I pressure tested the motor, I didn't lose anything. I recommend doing leak tests when the engine is warm, but cool enough to have lost most pressure.
