Default H22a civic hatch track times....disappointing!! im pissed (h22 1/4)

well last night i went to the track for the first time with my EK22. i was expecting at least a high 13 somewhere, but very wrong. i have intake, skunk2 cam gears, CM 7.5 lb flywheel, CM Stage 4 clutch& Tanabe super racing medallion cat back. i even gutted my interior, and adjusted my rear shocks to stiffest setting (KYB AGX). i did 4 runs...:
run R/T 60' 330 1/8 MPH 1000 1/4 MPH
1 .384 2.462 6.464 9.696 77.08 12.466 14.831 94.88
2 .365 2.419 6.405 9.627 77.52 12.414 14.959 87.60
3 .349 2.356 6.353 9.626 76.56 12.405 14.784 94.82
4 .249 2.518 6.865 10.171 76.10 12.984 15.366 94.77

i dont know what was wrong, but all i know is that i am very disappointed. any body out there with similar setup, let me know how these numbers sound. peace out

Look at your 0-60ft.... they are very bad You need to learn how to launch with you h22a. At least you should do 2.2 and less for the 0-60ft and you will lower your time into low 14 for sure. What is your front tire ? Try open headers I lower my time .4 with this and gain 3-4 mph

did you adjust your cams gears? I heard that 0,0 is the best setting for a close to stock motor. I would work on the 60fts.

LOL, you should have just opted for a b16. On a serious note, those numbers really really freaking blow. People are doing high 13's with a stock motor. You have to practice.

First of all this is your first post. We have no information on what your setup is, what exact mods you have done, what tire pressure you were at, nor what RPM you were launching at.. If you explain more of your setup then maybe we can help out a little more with unforseen issues..

Get back when you can!

well i listed what mods i had done to the engine. the cam gears are at 0,0. i launched at various rpm to see what would be the best launch point, but they all seemed to have gotten me in the same 1/4 and mph times. on my 4th run i think i launched somewhere around 3500 , but def above 3000. i had to borrow my friends stock ls rims , but not sure of the tires. i always seem to have bad experiences at the track. the first time i took my car, i broke my driver side mount and ripped out my tps. so i would say that launching is my problem. can anyone suggest the best way and what rpm's to launch at is. when i used my stock 13's that first time, i had bad bad wheel hop, which is why im scared to launch so hard out of the line.

telling from you 60 ft times you just need to work on your lauching method btw your mph are really low also. What size wheels are your running on

i ran on 15's stock ls with low pro, not sure on exact size, they were my friends who let me borrow them for the track. i know the exact diameter of the entire wheel and tire was the exact same as my stock 13's with tires

its a 1996 hatch, cx. i gutted out mostly what i could...front pas seat, rear seats, trunk floor board and mid deck piece. i dont know tire pressure i just through them on cause i was anxious to race and didnt have pressure gauge anyways. its an obd1 jdm h22a. not sure of exact year. i have the hcp mount kit. my balance shaft belt is disonnected to free up a few hp (not sure if this is a bad idea or not....... holeshot racing in cali told me about it). I have no egr, it is blocked off. ummm, i guess that all i can think of right now.

When I did my best time at the track I launch at 5000 rpm without wheel spin with 205/50/14 RA1. Do you a favor go buy some slick

Okay kewl. Well like someone else mentioned your 60' times could use some improvement, which could also be because you were running the tires at full pressure.. Also what RPMs were you shifting at, and are you IAB's hooked up at all in any way??

yeah, i want to get slicks, but i am about to get my car painted, so i wont have money for slicks for awhile. yeah my iab's are all hooked up like they should be. the only thing that i did to the motor as far as disabling was the balance shaft belt and the egr. other than that everything is the way it should be

I've said it before, I'll say it again for yah

Key to launching a H22 Civic is throttle response (what RPMs you launch at), traction (tires/radials/slicks), your rear suspension setup for weight distribution, and lots & lots of practice. At first, I was hitting 14.1 - 13.9 times with a stock H22 on 14" drag radials. After about 10-15 runs, I finally got it down to 13.3 on that same setup (not all in the same day either) but it just goes to show that whenever you do something different to the car (slicks, suspension setup, FI, etc), it's going to take practice to find out where the sweet spot is on the H22 Civic. Otherwise, you're just gonna blaze up the tires and spin all the way down through 3rd gear.

thanks for the advice New...i know it takes practice, i was just surprised at how crappy the times were. i was expecting lower...anyways...what would you say is a good launching rpm, like what would be too high and too low. i know that it will be different for everybody depending on many things, but give me a number so that i can start from there.

It's all in the tires. Get some slicks or at least drag radials. What 1/4 track are you going to? I am in Tampa.

Dang, 5000? I can't even launch close to that high. The first time I ran the 1/8th about a year ago I launched at 3700 and spun all the way down the track. So far for my best and most consistent times, I drop the tire pressure to 19 psi (on 205/55/15's), go around the burnout box, and launch at 1700 then stomp it. I still spin through first and part of second, but at least my times stay consistent and I cat in the middle of second. At least with the H22 once it hooks it ******* moves. Just keep practicing and try out different launches and tire pressures.

Ive herd that you should just rev the bastard to 7k and drop the clutch, suppoedly doesnt have wheel hop= bad, broken axles ect, it just burns out.

There would be alot of sudden strain on the axles which I'm sure isn't good.

Dropping at 7000 is a horrible idea. First of all, the motor doesn't make power after 7500 if it has stock head and internals like his does. Second off if he is running a stock ecu, the he hits the rev limiter right after he launches. Third off, the lack of traction will cause his times to be even worse and launching that high will cause spinning not only through first and second, but most likely third as well. I don't even lauch my car that high when I do a burn out. Just practice your launches, and if you break **** then oh well. If you don't break something every once in a while then your not going fast enough.

Your MPH is a good indicator of how much power you are putting down. 94 is not alot and only good for mid 14's. I'd check your setup like compression check, basic tune up items, and other things that may choke your power.
