Default H22 Swapped civic, prelude forum seems more fitting.

I have a 94 civic I paid 700 dollars for. Upon inspecting it I found it had a JDM 91 h22a engine in it.

Smoke was blowing out of the breather filter and oil was dripping from it on top of my thermostat. I decided I needed to do a compression test.

my results were, Cyl1:210 Cyl2:205 Cyl3:210 Cyl4:130

SO, clearly cyl4 is my issue, but I don't know if it Is worth it to fix whatever the issue is, buy a new engine instead, or what.
I would imagine whatever is wrong probably requires pulling the engine.

I also need to do the brakes all the way around and bleed them, replace the windshield and fix an exhaust leak.

so with all that being said i am sure I can do the brakes, and the windshield and exhaust leak should only cost 400 bucks or so, I've already bought all the brakes, brakes cleaner, brake fluid, oil, a filter, coolant, new spark plugs.
but what do I do with the engine ? I don't have the tools or shop necessary to work on that myself and am sure it costs more to get the engine rebuilt then it costs to just buy an h22a, and I am sure there may tons in a junk yard, but not JDM ones, Idk if it has to be jdm or not since the current one is.

advice, tips, was I stupid for buying this car? (I knew it was a project but was hoping the engine was fine)

Im not sure if your location, but there's **** loads oid "companies"on Craigslist that sell the common Honda engines if you're on a budget. If you aren't pinching dollars and want to be guaranteed a great engine, go to hmotors.com.

Pointless imo to spend real money rebuilding an engine to stock. If you want an oem engine, buy one. If you want a reliable engine that takes serious power... build one.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm located in Hampton Roads, Va (Va Beach area)

it seems like even eBay and such are around the same price as hmotors, they are 1200 on Hmotors but the issue is it comes with everything attached. (Exhaust mani, intake, alternator, etc) I have all that, and it's all good. I just have an issue with the actual engine not the outlying parts. I wish they sold them separately.
