H22 Civic - Highway driving
I just recently acquired a 99 EK with the H22 swap. When I'm at a steady 70+, it feels like the engine is screaming. The tach shows ~3500 RPM. As soon as I let off the gas, the speed drops instantly, unlike most cars, where it has a tendancy to "coast" a little before the speed drops.
My question is: why? Is the H22 trans just geared that way? Would a lightened flywheel make the difference?
Also, Is the H23 trans noticeably slower? I did some research and people claim its the happy medium between the loooonnnng F-series gears and the short H22 gears. Is this true? I'd like to have a little longer gears as I do a fair amount of highway driving and I'd like to keep it at a lower RPM.

Re: H22 Civic - Highway driving (Jason kiDD)
The F22 Tranny is crap. Go with a h23 or keep the 22. The h23 tranny has the same final drive as the h22 tranny with slighly longer gears. I am pretty sure my friends prelude comes out of 3rd gear ~110mph w/ the h23 tranny. I am going with the 23 tranny in my swap.

Re: (JSPECunit)
You want to know why 4k at 80mph is good? When you floor it in 5th you dont have to wait 10years for it to hit vtec. Its already close to opening up the iab's and you have enough power to get up in vtec quickly.

Man, that would be heaven for me. At about 80mph, im at about 4700ish in fifth gear.

It's worse for B-Series. Much worse.
As far as speed dropping fast that's a component on less momentum built up. Which can be any part in the drive train that has been lightened. 99% of the time it's a flywheel.

How is it worse for B Series? My friends LS tranny on B18C1 is about 500-600rpm lower at the same speed.

Re: H22 Civic - Highway driving (Sleeping_H22_DC2)
I actually paid attention today at 120kmh in 5th i'm at 4k ?? quick math says that around 72 MPH ?!?!? why is mine lower than everyones. i thought my gears and final were stock but, jdm tranny final would be different by that much. huh ? I wanna open it up now maybe i can convince my wife to thinking my clutch that is 1 month old is bad and get a six puck.

probably becuz of two reasons:
1. quick math isn't exact math so you weren't doing 72 (i'd think u were going faster).
2. Stock tachs are not always accurate with speed/rpms. as long as you're in the ballpark, you should be fine.

A. KMH-MPH fomula = 120KPH * 6 = 720 drop the zero = 72MPH
B. I am using a data logging system which is using the actual rpm signal wire before it hits the ecu so its pretty accurate
i think the guy i bought this off of ealier must of did something it is a type-s w/ lsd i'm going to do some searching to see if it changes

Re: H22 Civic - Highway driving (Sleeping_H22_DC2)
won't running bigger rims impact your speed as well? should read slower than what you're really going. at least that's what i always heard/thought.
