Default H22, Civic EK hatch, and 2000 Si engine wiring harness.. HELP?!?!

Help guys.. I have a JapSpec H22 which is slated to go into my EK hatch (96) soon. I just bought a 2000 Si engine wiring harness and now I'm attempting to make the two play nice together. It's not going so well. SEVERAL clips are the same, and I don't have any wiring diagrams for either car/engine. several clips LOOK the same, but they're totally different.. Like the distributor clip. Can anyone offer any rewire advice/diagrams/help/how-to's? Thanks!! I KNOW there's guys out there with it done.. THanks!!!

Trust me on this one.

You CANNOT use a 99SI harness in anything but a 99-01 Civic.

You need a 96-98 EX Harness. Just trust me. I have both the civic and the integra helms, and the SI harness will not work.

The SI harness only contains two ECU plugs. You need 3. The third ECU plug comes from the cabin harness.

On a 96-98 harness, all 3 ECU plugs are there, and depending on the ECU you are running, they will need to be changed.

If you shoot me an email at tleone@hotmail.com I will send you all of the civic helms scans that I have of the ecu and harness. You should and will need the helms for you motor though.

You have mail!
Actually, it seems it will work, since the cabin harness is already in place. All I need is the proper OBD2-1 conversion harness, which I have. Not sure if that's a workaround for the issue you have seen or not, but I thought I may mention... Any thoughts? THere's 3 plugs that go into the ECU. One comes from the cabin, the other two, from the engine harness. I seem to have all 3 now.
Is there any easy way to recognize what plugs go where, etc? Wiring's confusing...

Agreed, use the 96-98 EX harness since all the VTEC wiring is there. Just extend the wires where needed. Get the H22 bolt-in kit and a 96-98 H22a ecu.

00 Harness won't work. Check out http://www.jspectuning.com/6gen for info.....

Do you mean you have the interior cabin harness from a 99SI too? That would mean that you have a 99SI blower box, heater box and climate control too then for that to work.

Also, dont forget that there is a plug between the engine harness connected to the cabin harness. Also, the second O2 sensor on an SI comes from the cabin harness as well.

There are many internal wiring differences between the 96-98 and 99-00 eks. LOTS.

You need the 96-98 EX harness. I thought the same thing as you did, untill I spent a few days with the helms comparing wiring between the 2 sub generations.

Edit, I havent forgotten about the helms scans either and I got your email. i just haven't been in the office all day, but will send them tomorrow.

Kaotik,
Do you have any help/info/suggestions as to how this will work? Thanks man!
Tonyxcom,
Thanks for the wiring info man!! Downloading this right now. As far as the wiring goes, actually, I do have the Si climate control... At least the 99-00 **** style ones, I do. They work, so must be normal down there. Does this mean I have the Si dash harness? I don't know.. That would be a good thing I suppose.
So, anyone have any qualms with me using a 97ish Honda PRELUDE wiring harness?? I mean, H22? Right? It would plug right into the engine, and right into the ECU, since it's from a 'lude? So, what's to stop me from doing this? Issues? Concerns? Anyone? Thanks!!!

Actually, with my OBD2-1 harness, they all clip in normally. I don't mean to be a pain, guys, I just need some info, ya know?

Man you are all over the place.

You HAVE to use the 96-98 EX harness.

The 99-00 ecu plugs are the same "style" plugs as the 96-98 ecu BUT the pins are totally different.

Take that 99-00 harness and throw it away. You can't use it!!!

Go buy a 96-98 EX harness, plug it to the H22a, extend the wires where needed. Drop the H22a in the car. Run the ecu plugs through the firewall. Use your OBDII to OBDI ecu harness and plug in your OBDI H22a ecu.

Again, READ http://www.jspectuning.com/6gen all the wiring is mostly the same. Since you are using an OBDI ecu, most of the extra wiring can be avoided.

I bought my 98 EX harness for $100 from a yard in Seattle. It's WORTH it!!!

Good Luck,

LOL! just coverin' my bases man. OK, ok, I will get a '96-98 EX harness. Does that yard around you have any more for that price? I can't find one for the LIFE of me, that's why I'm trying this. I'll even trade someone for this. I even posted a classified to no avail here. Thanks for the info, BTW. I'm new to HONDAS not to CARS. My previous love was DSM's.

Ok, talking about beating a dead horse.. Anyway, I just remembered something. I have the Si HVAC controls (3 *****) right? and I borrowed my friend's 2000 Si CD player, and it clipped right in. Does this mean I have the 99-00 dash wiring harness needed to complete the 99-00 set? Oh man, the plot thickens...

Ok, guys, not to bring up a dead topic or anything but, I have a quick q. I got my DX harness yesterday, and on it there are 3 plugs that go into the ECm. I have the OBD2-1 harness alrady, and was looking.. There's a plug coming from under the dash.. It's the same plug as the one on the DX harness! There's 4 plugs to go into 3 ECM plugs?!?! The guy before me swapped out the 96 EK climate controls in favor of the 2000 Civ controls (**** style) so I'm thinking he swapped harnesses too? So, do I need a 98-2k style one again for this? there were only 2 plugs on that one. HELP!! MY HATCH IS WAITING FOR ITS ENGINE!!

You should have a 32 pin plug, a 31 pin plug and a 16 pin plug and a green plug. The green plug is the interior harness plug.

If you have Vtec, you should have an EX harness, not the DX harness. But the DX will work, you just need to add the Vtec wires.

Have you checked out http://www.jspectuning.com/6gen yet?

Also, in order to get the 99-00 Si ac controls to work, you need the entire ac system from a 99-00 Si since they use electrical controls and the 96-98s use a mechanical (lever) system.

Don't waste your time.

Damn.. you do have all that stuff.. and you didn't know it??

All of the information people are giving seems correct to my knowledge. Are you converting to OBD1 later on?

I don't think the Si harness includes all the wiring for an H22, neither does the 96-98 EX. I think there is secondary set of runner/s on the H22 manifold too.

But if your cabin harness is 99-00 style, you can now use the 99-00 Si harness. And you will need to run a 99-00 ECU, or convert to OBD1.

If you need one, put an add in the classifieds. Or you can look for a 99-00 EX harness too I believe.. (that makes sense)
