brief notes = drove to san diego 100+ miles, car throws code 17 after hitting freeway speed limit 65+, happened 3-4 times, car rested, way back no more codes, car kicks in first, hard to put in gear.

the story might help if you have time to read its more detailed.

ok im driving to san diego from orange county which is about 100+ mile drive well im driving about anywhere from 65 mph-90mph just sticking with traffic. im driving for an hour and a half straight and then i reach my destination at san diego airport the car is rested for a good half hour but then i have to take my friend to check in at a marine corps base. on the drive there my car throws a code. i pull over and check. find out its CEL 17. what could have sparked this problem, i figure it was nothing big so i drive off and it keeps showing up. so i stop for a good 2 hours and head back and its about dark by now with 60degree temperature it has not shown up once on the way back. but it threw a code 3-4 times after i resetted the code. btw the car started kicking in first which i think the timing jumped. can some please explain how or what happened?

i checked my vss and it hasnt popped off or any visible damage i do feel that i need a little more pressure to put it into gear maybe low on tranny fluid also???

The prelude VSS is very gay. If you do not have a wiring problem, meaning that tach is still working and you getting code, or tach not working but vtec works then most probably the actual VSS sensor itself is loose. It is only held on to the tranny by one tiny bolt. Mine has come loose every now and again also. See if you can put your hand on the VSS housing and see if it turns then you know it has to be rebolted down again..

did some seraching last night before i posted. the vss not loose, tach still works, as far as the vtec i am not sure i know that it kicks in but not as strong as usual maybe its cuz of the 150 lbs worth of bags in the trunk plus 3 adults
