Default K24 - differences between Accord, TSX, and CRV?!

Ok, WTF is Honda trying to pull here....

As far as I am aware - which may not be a lot - there are not major differences between the accord K24, CRV K24 and TSX K24 - are there?!

I know that the intake manifolds are different - but wtf. Check this out:

CRV short block MSRP from Hondaautomotiveparts.com: $3500

TSX short block MSRP from Acuraautomotiveparts.org: around $3500

BUT

Accord K24 short block MSRP from Hondaautomotiveparts: $1500!!!

Is there something that I am missing or what?!?

If the blocks are pretty much the same, why the hell are the prices so much different? I am thinking of going a K20 / K24 hybrid route in the future and am looking into prices, parts, etc....But well, anyone?

i know, its pretty stupid

and you know that its not just the internals, its the block itself... if you go look at the prices for the blocks alone, that of the CRV is insanely more expensive then the accord one, which makes no sense to me.

Well, that's why I asked - I wonder if anyone has tried an accord K24 and see if their the same or what?

If they are, thats a lot of money saved right there (plus a lot more options opened up).

between the blocks themselves, i dont think there is a difference between the CRV and the Accord/Element (both same price and same thing), if anyone has a CRV or TSX block, take detailed pics and i will compare them to my Accord K24 block!

I checked this stuff out about a year ago....the crx, element, and accord all seem to be the same bottom end. The tsx has a slightly better counterbalanced crank making it better for high rpm.

they do have differences.

What do these shortblocks come with? crank? rod/pistons? How coplete are they?

Roughly the TSX one is more similar to the accord one. The CRV one is different on top.

You see, the CRV one doesn't have all the EGR crap on top. There is no EGR on the TSX. Parts are there but the ports are blocked off. The water take off point which is integral to the TSX intake manifold is on a different position. You can bolt on a CRV and probably an Accord throttle body.

You can machine the accord block to make it accept a type r manifold for example. The crv block will accept one with no mods.

Probably has something to do with Accords being hella cheaper new then the other 2 cars.Meaning more Accords to wreck/total out.

So, if I had an RSX swap and wanted to go with the K24 short block which one should I get?

It has mostly to do with availability. The Accords are made in the US the others are not. The Accords are made by the hundreds of thousands anually too.

Hail to the king baby!

In your experience, would their be any true merit with going with an accord k24 vs a CRV or Element K24? Is it true about the internals being beefier in the TSX K24 - OR are they pretty much a horse a piece? If so - the opportunity to create a frankenstein has just become much greater!

The Accord and Element blocks are identical, also you can't bolt an RSX head to them without changing the pistons. There will be interference.

The CRV block is compatible with the RSX head, but if you rev it too high you will get valve to piston contact.

The TSX block has the goodies. I haven't compared the cranks, but the rods are definitely beefier. There should be decent valve clearance with an RSX head too.

If your going to leave the engine stock, get the TSX engine. You can buy compete engines from junk yards for $2K. You can use the stock head until you can buy an RSX head. In the next two months we are coming out with an adapter so that you will be able to bolt the RSX manifold (or supercharger) on to the TSX head.

About this, we've learned that this is not the case, the TSX head doesn't use an EGR, but it is ported for one.

Edited , thanks Nikos

I think you meant to say TSX block.

correct me if I am wrong but the K24a1 (CRV) has a CR of 9.6:1 while k24a4 (accord/element) has a CR of 9.7:1

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by fabworxs &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">So, if I had an RSX swap and wanted to go with the K24 short block which one should I get?</TD></TR></TABLE>

go with K24a2 (TSX) Hotwheelz did this in his RSX...dyno'd ~215whp & 180 lb/ft on a dyno jet with K-pro (not fully tuned - i believe) - if not go with K24a1 (CRV) so you don't have to swap out the pistons like you would with a K24a4 (accord/element) - like brian g said

Yes and the combustion chambers and piston domes are significantly different, that's why you can't bolt an RSX head on a K24A4 block.

What is up with all the big guys in the import world having shaved heads?

Is that the secret to making it in this industry? I'll be right back, gotta go buy some razors.

You must have looked at the wrong picture, as Brian has the fluffy gray hair, and the cylinder heads were not shaved either..
