Default GSR vs. Type R; What's the difference?

Type R
DISPLACEMENT: 1797 cc (DOCH VTEC)
HORSE POWER: 210hp@8100 rpm
TORQUE: 134lbs-ft@7500 rpm
COMPRESSION: 11.0:1
BORE: 81mm
STROKE: 87.2
OBD: 2
REDLINE: 8900

GSR
DISPLACEMENT: 1797 cc (DOCH VTEC)
HORSE POWER: 178hp@7600 rpm
TORQUE: 129lbs-ft@6200 rpm
COMPRESSION: 10.6:1
BORE: 81mm
STROKE: 87.2
OBD: 2
REDLINE: 8200

If these two motors have the same displacement, bore, and stroke, what makes the horse power and redline much higher than the other? Can you upgrade the GSR to a Type R? I would much rather spend around $3,500 for a GSR, than spend around $5,000 for a Type R, when I can upgrade later. Also, would it be cheaper to try to build a Type R from a GSR, or just buy the Type R?

Also, if you're looking at a complete swap, the Type R swap has the ITR tranny, along with LSD.

the ITR tranny has a better final, along with the aforementioned LSD. Cams, pistons, etc already mentioned are different.

Yes you can make a GSR into an ITR. We usually refer to that as the "poor man's ITR", but in the long run unless if you get the motor super cheap. You will end up spending more in building your GSR, than actually buying a real ITR.

Just go to TOTALJDM, listed at the bottom of my sig. You will be happy with their motors. A little more pricey than most retailers ex. 3850USD for b16b, but in the long run you will know you are getting a grade A engine

Differences include the head, cams, intake and exhaust manifolds, throttle body, shorter tranny, helical lsd, shorter final drive if the itr is jdm 98 or newer, crank, rods, pistons esentially theyre two completely different motors with the same displacement.
