i am going to pick up a gsr engine from osaka pretty soon and was wondering what to expect when swapping it. is it just a direct bolt on or do i need a wiring harness. also how much time should i allow. i have a 98 civic hatch dx

it's all drop in.
you will just need to use your dx harness since you are probably using a jdm b18c harness being rhd.
you will have to add iab, knock sensor and vtec, that's it.

Re: gsr swap in hatch?? (98civichtchback)
you will need gsr tranny, axles, ecu, shift linkage and different mounts - it is not a direct bolt in.
also need radiator and exhaust work - FYI, the last one we did here at ZCspeed, the guy had a little over $6000 in it.

Re: gsr swap in hatch?? (VTECVillain)
Radiator work??? Exhaust work yes, the GSR header is shorter so a piece will need filled in. The guy that had $6000 in his GSR swap, I hope that was a fully rebuilt motor/tranny because that's steep
I did my swap and cost me almost that much. Only difference is he probably paid for labor.
Motor 3,500
Clutch (might as well) 300
Tming belt, filters, spark plugs and other tune-up stuff. 120
Clutch conversion (was an automatic) 200
Del Sol Dual core Radiator 120 (old rad will not sustain WOT..been there)
A/C bracket 120
Shipping 200
New 02 sensor 80.
Total= 4640.

Re: gsr swap in hatch?? (98civichtchback)
The stock radiator on my CX worked perfectly for my GSR swap.
$6000 sounds fair (assuming that includes all labor-if not, thats crack smoking high).
There's lots of information here:
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/index.html
Read that over, and you should be a good long way toward knowing what to expect.
Good Luck

iyou will just need to use your dx harness since you are probably using a jdm b18c harness being rhd.
The harness plugs are in the exact same place on both the LHD and RHD chassis. The swap is the same (and as easy) as any B series swap.

It will be a direct 'drop in' if you get the 99 Si rear and drivers side mounts. Then just use the DX harness , add the above mentioned sensors. and Viola!
You will need to bring it to an exhaust shop to probably get a new cat, and get the piping fitted up.

Not True!

also, the swap is not direct bolt in, you have to use a rear 99-00 Si tranny mount bracket, and a driver side upper 99-00 Si bracket with your stock EK mount. You don't need any of the gs-r mounts, just the front tranny mount bracket and the ac mount bracket (unless you want to use AC then you'll need an Si or DelSol VTEC ac mount bracket). you'll use your stock EK mounts.
How do I know? I did a c5 swap into my EK and was bummed when I couldn't use *ANY* of the ITR mounts and motor mount inserts I had purchased for them. Shoulda used EK motor mount inserts. Oh well, live and learn.
For wiring just use your stock DX harness on the motor (hopefully your gsr motor is obd2 also, otherwise your alternator and distributor plugs won't be the same on your harness). cut the vtec plugs off the RHD gs-r harness then plug them in to the vtec solenoid, then run wires from them through the firewall and to the ECU. you'll have to do the same for IAB.
if your motor is obd2 then you'll be all set, just plug in the obd2 gs-r ecu and you're done. if your motor is obd1 then you'll have to splice in the obd1 distrib and alternator plugs into your obd2 dx harness, then get a harness jumper (OBD2-->OBD1) to be able to use the obd1 gs-r (p72) ecu. if your motor is obd1 but you want to run an obd2 p72 ecu, then you'll need to add a crank fluctuation sensor which will only bolt on to an obd2 gs-r oil pump.
PM me with questions if you need help.

whoa, are you smoking crack? RHD and LHD harnesses are very much different because the ECU is located on different sides of the car.
