getting a crx soon, suggested swaps please
i'm getting a 88 si soon, and i have a 92 civic dx right now. I was looking into just about every swap into my dx, and came to the conclusion that a b18c1 would be best, however i think that i'm going to put that money into the swap into the crx. I was just wondering what's out there for them, and what all is going to be involved in the swaps into it (different mounts, wiring, and so on..)
also, what prices am i looking at here?
thanks a lot

Well, if you go B-series (like you should), there are a few companies out there that have bolt-in mount kits to ease the swap. Since you have an Si, wiring shouldn't be too hard for any of the motors. A B16 is always a good choice, as is a B18A. If you have the money then go for a B18C, that would really move the car. I really like the LS (B18A) motor. I've had one in my crx and now I have a B16 in it. Between the 2, I like the LS motor better, torque just feels better. Then you could always boost after you swap as well. Your best bet is to do some searching around the net and here on H-T.

If you're thinking about going all motor and get an LS motor, I'd reccommend the B16 tranny(S1 I think) because of the quicker gearing, unless you're thinking about boost then the stock LS tranny is just fine.

Find a 96-up non vtec head and bolt it on your car. You'll have high compression for dirt cheap. You'll be way faster than you expect from a sohc. Smog will be easy too.

good choices for an engine swap...i would suggest a jdm gsr engine...can never go wrong with the JDM...anyways,..if ur planning to go for an LS all motor, id suggest u get a gsr tranny to go along with it..my brother has an LS with a gsr tranny, aem short ram with homemade ram air, and 4-1 headers...shiet me not but he beat a 94GSr ..back to the subject..LS is torque happy and likes FI or NOS..if u wanna go all motor, id suggest a b16b(like mine) or a gsr(especially if u like the feel of Vtec)..as long as u have the money for it, good luck with your future engine!

You love VTEC eh? Try a turbo... it's like VTEC on steroids. I'm waiting for my mounts to arrive b4 I do my B18A+DRAG turbo kit, I think it'll take a B18C powered 'rex and I can always drop a VTEC head on it in the future if I feel the need for more power.

he means S1
there are (3) b-series Cable trannies that i know of... the S1..J1..and Y1
i might be wrong on this, but the S1 and J1 have the gearing equal to a typeR, and one of them has LSD, i believe its the S1, whereas the J1 doesn't..
and the Y1 has gearing similar to an ls..
you should check out hmotorsonline. a 1st gen B16 complete swap for 1,195$ plus shipping...and you can choose which tranny you want.

S1 and J1 have the same gearing, but the final drive is lower so it still feels like a LS tranny IMO, but better gearing. A YS1 GSR cable tranny has the same gears and final drive as an ITR tranny (the 4.4 FD ITR tranny) and is a huge difference over the S1 & J1 transmissions. I used to have a YS1 GSR tranny in my B18A CRX and that setup was very quick. Threw in a S1 tranny w/LSD later on and the car felt slower.... gearing wasn't as good as the YS1. Both are still better than the LS tranny, but there's a huge difference from Y1/J1/S1 to the YS1 GSR transmission.
