Default Fitting a D16z6 into a 1g integra....

at first i thought it was a dirct swap, stock the 1st gen integra came w/ a dohc d16a6 i believe which is the same as a zc motor pretty much, so shouldn't everythin jus bolt right right in? i read a post somewhere here on ht that said that a d16a6 from 1st gen integra wouldn't fit right into an ef chasis.. so wassup w/ that? also how do i go about wiring the motor? the chasis is obd0 and the motor would be obd1. will it plug into the chasis harness? can anyone shine any light on this swap?

Not sure about the D16Z6 swap...but if i were you i would sell the Z6 and pick up a ZC or find a D16A1.

you can use the a6 distributor but you have to ream out the bolt holes a little on the side farthest out. the span of the z6 holes is wider than the span of the a6 distributor holes.

To clarify, you heard wrong. There's a lot of misinformation floating around H-T. 1g integras came with either a D16A1 or a D16A3, which are very different from most other d-series engines. They share engine mounts and head bolt pattern with 84-87 Civic/CRX EW engines and D15A3 engines as well as dohc JDM 1g ZCs (NOT 88+ dohc JDM Civic/CRX ZCs!). It is a major PITA to put a z6, a6, or any 88+ d-series into a 1g integra because the engine/tranny mounts are all different, not to mention wiring, ecu, etc. Good luck though.

finally, a worthy reply. i know the d16a1/3's are different from ur typical 'modern' d-series. but what my thoughts were that the old 1g integra's came w/ the d16a1/3 which to my knowledge is the same as a zc motor, and aren't zc's and d-series pretty identical as far as mounting, wiring, tranny, etc. so wouldn't swapping a d series into a 1g integra (d16a1/3 (similar to a zc)-> d16z6) be the pretty much the opposite of swapping from d-series -> zc?

i would think that the mounts and everythin else are the same. so basicly pull the harness, tranny, mounts, and everythin else off the d16a1/3 and swap them onto a d16z6 and drop the motor right. any thoughts?

it's been conf... i found a few people online that have jdm zc swaps in their 1g integra. if they can get the zc motor to bolt in, there should be nuthin holding me back to get the z6 to fit, a lil mix and match on parts and i should be fine...

yeppers, that's it exactly. Unfortunately you can't just say "ZC", or even "DOHC ZC". Basically, 84-87 USDM Civic/CRX engines, 86-89 USDM Integra engines, and early dohc zc engines (meaning browntop and 88-89 JDM Integra blacktop) are from the same branch of the Honda family tree; 88+ USDM and JDM Civic/CRX d-series engines are from another branch of the Honda family tree; and the 88+ JDM Civic/CRX blacktop dohc zc engines (the most common ones) are the bastard hybrids of both families by having the head bolt pattern of the former and the engine/tranny mounts of the latter. So when you say ZC, you've got to be really REALLY specific!
