Default First time at track with h2b and broke axle??

I only put down 190whp and was on nitto drag radials so i wasnt expecting to snap an axle so easily. I was trying to launch at 5k and i pre loaded the suspension with the e-brake but as soon as i let go of the clutch the passenger axle snapped. So i was looking for better axles that arent so expensive. These were autozone specials but i figured they would be at least as good as oem honda axles? Would i be better off getting some oem's or are there any other good axles decently priced?

did you dump the clutch?
Did you preload?
whats your axle angle like?
is your car slammed? if so look at the axle angle.

Ive made at least a 100 passes on my autozone axles on slicks.

From the sound of it, you dumped the clutch at 5,000. That's pretty reckless, and how I broke my first axle in my Neon (300ft.lbs on 10 psi slicks from 5,500 = bad idea). If the above mentioned issues are in check, slip it and you probably won't break any. Lifetime warranty is your friend.

Yes i know lifetime warrenty is nice but not if you have to tow your car home from the track everytime. Its lowered on ebay coil overs but there only about half way down on the lowering adjustments so i would say its only lowered 1 1/2 - 2 inches. I will take pics of the axle angle tonight to let you guys see it. I did preload i held the 2 step then pulled the e-brake and let the clutch out until it engaged and the car squatted. After that i pretty much did drop the clutch but its a 4 puck so its kinda hard to slip. This is my first time with fwd so maybe i just need more practice

Hey redneckricer when you got your autozone axles were they new ones or refurbished? I went there last night to swap mine and they said they carry new and refurbished, he gave me refurb since they didnt have new in stock. Im wondering which would be better. Also the axle snapped half way down the splines in the tranny so now i got to take my drivers side axle out and hammer the remaining piece of the passenger one out. I hope its not goin to be a bitch to get out

get the NEW autozone axles and get rid of the nitto's. run full slicks and pre-load. you wont break any axles after that. nitto's wheel hop like a bitch and break ****. get some good quality motor mounts as well. if your hell bent on using the drag radials, then your going to need some nice, expensive, axles. just go straight to the DSS 5.9's. drag radials are axle/diff killers. stay far far away....some 23" slicks would do you nicely....

I know i need slicks but this is what i run on the streets so i wanted to see what i ran in street trim full interior and system. Also it wasnt wheel hop that broke anything it snapped as soon as i let go of the clutch. I also didnt have any wheel hop at all on my other launches. I have evo mounts since they came with my h2b kit. Ill have to try and call autozone and see if i can exchange these for the new ones and not refurbs

in my experiences, all it takes is 1 hop on drag radials and your done. something HAD to have happened in order for the axle to snap. ive had axles snap from bangin 3rd really hard on drag radials. drag radials do this number, grip, spin, grip, spin, grip, spin. i havent been on drag radials in probably 6-7 years, have had nothing but shitty luck with them on the track.

Using a traction bar, full coilover suspension, and being on slicks, I broke my axles 3 times before I decided to replace them with some beefy axles. Never had wheel hop. I dont think he needs DSS 5.9's. Wheel hop is a killer but i don't think he needs axles rated for 1000+hp on a 190HP motor...

If anything, some DSS 2.9's should be more than enough...
$$DSS 2.9 Axles

They are no joke when it comes to pricing though.

Its called Preloading the Trans. For some reason, it is tough to do a search on the subject. =\

since were on the subject i was at sacramento racway last month for my first drag racing experience. i have a h2b eg 200whp 160tq. traction bars, and 23" slicks. open diff stock axles. i did one run (crappy time) 13.8. keep in mind i have never been to the track...well second run on the 2 step at 5500rpm. and let go and pop! instant axle breakage. i need some dragger advice on the protocall at the line....i ordered dds 2.9's already. what do i need to do to go faster and take it easy on my parts?

your probably right....but the way i look at it, if im going to spend that kind of money on something that has a high likely hood of breaking STILL, i would get the 5.9's i KNOW your not going to snap those bad boys. ive seen a couple local guys snap the lower end DSS axles and i couldnt imagine forking out big bucks and still snapping an axle. IMO its either the stock/autozone ones, or go all the way with the 5.9's.

research Pre-loading, and put an LSD in the trans. when you put those dss 2.9's in, the next thing to break is going to be the stock open diff. trust me on that.

IMO here is whats key.
Solid or damn near solid motor mounts (i run innovative 95a's)
Slicks, preferably 13" for the larger/softer sidewall (no drag radials or street tires)
LSD (after axles, the stock open diff is the next weakness)
Clutch Control (DO NOT pop the clutch, learn to slip it)
Pre-load (takes the slop out of the drivetrain and saves parts)

ive been through my fair share of broken axles and those items/techniques above have helped me to stay away from the broken axle fairy.

I would drop the clutch with a little less aggresion at a higher rpm than 5500. GEt it to break traction. Most guys that I have seen and talked to like for ther fwd cars to spin when they lunch so that they dont bogg ther car down.
