Finally my swap is underway! B20 into '96 Civic CX (56k proceed with caution)
Well after about a year of collecting parts and saving money, my engine swap is finally taking place. The engine is in and all that is left to be done is hooking everything up and starting it up.
This is my initial setup:
'99 B20Z out of a salvaged CRV.
'98 Euro Integra Type R transmission (thanks 'austrian type-r'...now we'll see if it works! )
OBDII LS intake manifold
B20 throttle body
B16 exhaust manifold
AEM Integra Type R cold-air intake
Stock exhaust (i'm hoping it'll bolt up!)
Integra Type R clutch & flywheel
OBDI LS ecu with OBDII-OBDI conversion harness
Here are some not-too-great pics of the progress:
'92 d16z6 was the previous engine
Attaching the hoist brackets
Get outta there sucka!
Here is a problem we discovered...my B20 throttle body had a broken connector on the throttle position sensor. We're gonna use the d16 one instead.
Time for the B20 to go in!
Old d16 and B20 parts..hehe
All we have left to do is hook everything up to the engine: wiring, fuel rail/injectors, throttle body, shift linkage, axles.
Things to note:
1)The axle nuts are a severe pain to remove. Whoever put the passenger side on mine last deserves a kick to the junk!
2)The B20Z stock timing belt mount bracket does not have to be replaced, as far as we can tell. We compared it to the 99-00 Si(R) bracket and it is pretty much identical. Plus, isn't a CRV engine bay very similar to a 96-00 Civic engine bay? (The pics you've seen are using this stock mount.)
3)The stock B20 throttle body butterfly is oriented similar to a GSR throttle body..the cable must pull from the passenger side. 'b20guy' sent me the spring and bracket from an LS throttle body and this was swapped onto the B20 one so it could be used. (thanks bud!) We'll find out once we start it up if everything is OK.
4)We did not have a b-series clutch alignment tool so my main 'mechanic' used his inginuity and wrapped his d-series one with black tape..made thick enough to hold the clutch disc secure. It seems to have worked.
5)I bought a B20 starter and it will NOT work. The cone part of the starter that goes in through the tranny casing is too long. I traded it at the junkyard I got it at for a 94 LS alternator...this should be common sense anyway -> integra tranny, integra starter hehe!
I'll let y'all know how it turns out....

Heh, axle nuts are fun though! Just keep the car on the ground, get a 2ft breaker bar and jump around on it for a bit. Worked for me

We tried that haha! We had to use some heavy duty air tools to remove it..it was rusted pretty badly and the nut ridge was really dented into the axle..we couldn't get all of the metal out of the dented part....the air tools took care of that tho.

Looking good so far...I also am curious how the B20Z will feel with the ITR tranny. Is it the 98spec ITR tranny with 4.785 final drive? Post up when you finish everything and get it up and running

I'm pretty sure I already have a local buyer. I'm in NB, Canada by the way.
And yes it's got the 4.785 final drive...

Any difference between the UKDM ITR tranny and a JDM ITR tranny? Looks sweet man, I plan on doing a crvtec someday

I'm asking $800 Canadian for the whole thing..but I'm quite sure I have a local buyer.
As far as I know the European type r trannies are similar to the jdm ones: the '98+ having the 4.785 FD.
