Default erratic idle on fresh swap done today-d16y8 into 93 civic cx-need help!

just got my d16y8 into my 1993 civic cx

1. starts up but has an erratic idle-like it has a race only cam
2. tried finding the "jumper" for the cel and can't quite locate it(or if i have not sure what it is)
3. my speedo needle bounces around like a tach-it is bouncing with the erratic idle.

setup-p28 and i wired vtec up. i am also using obd2 injectors and dizzy(rewired obviously)
also converted 1 wire o2 to 4 wire.

any help is appreciated. thanks (long day)

Hmm, probably the MAP sensor and TPS backwards, simple vacuum leak, or air in the coolant system.

I would definitely pull the codes. There is a service connector just above the ECU that has a green connector on it. There will be a brown wire and another wire (forgot today). Simply jump those two wires with a metal paperclip bent into a U shape, or a short wire.

You can also follow this site:

Keep us posted.

Like Poison said, you'll need to first jump the connector and check for any CEL's. Switching the MAP and TPS plugs is an easy mistake and that will definitely throw CEL's. If that's not the problem, check all around for vacuum leaks which aren't always the easiest thing to find.

well i got code 9 and i saw that ihad 2 wires on the dizzy back wards. then after code 9 was cleared code 4 began popping up. but i am trying to figure out if the computer is throwing code 4 or 14 or 24 at me? it goes two real long and then 4 real short.

does the cel light flash once in between to let you know it is starting a new sequence or a new code?? not too sure but i have a list of like 25 things to check and re-check. also have new iacv. any more help will be great

i know that 24 is not a code but i am trying to figure out why it blinks the way it does. has it ever done anything like that in yours or someone you know Villain?

it will beep once long then pause/nothing-then blink long again.(there is like a 1-2 second pause between those blinks-that is why i think those 2 long blinks is just indicating a new sequence or something.

thanks again

Sounds to me like it might be flashing 1 then 14 which would be O2 and IACV. I'd have to see it to be sure but the way you describe I doubt it is 24.

just went out and tried a whole bunch of stuff. i swappe dout the iacv with a newer one and checked all vacuum and connections. i found my pcv was not hooked up in the back of the block. but from the original 5 codes it is now throwing only 1(o2) and 22(vtec) but they are wired up correctly. any ideas?? car still idles the same(all over the place) and is driving me nuts. all of a sudden it is throwing me the vtec code-it's been throwing me the o2 code. don't know why gonna calm the nerves

well i just changed the coolant temp sensor and checked the vtec wiring and cleared the ecu as i was doing all this several times. i also found where my missing speed sensor plug was tucked away at. my speedo no longer moves(so at least i know my dizzy wiring is ok) but it is still throwing codes 10 and 22.. car still idles like **** but my friend decided to drive it. it actually drives but he says the car feels like it is holding back. he says in first gear it is a little stubborn but once it is in second it moves better but it is still holdong back-so apparently the car does rev past 3-4k rpm!! but what is the problem?? ....
my friend who is a mechanic and has been helping me out still hasn't measured the dizzy's resistance because the book i have(chilton;'s and haynes) only show the primary resistance and secondary only. nothing else inside the dizzy. can someone post this( the other things to check and their resistance?) thanks for listening..

10 = Intake Air Temp
22 = VTEC pressure switch

Check and make sure you have the IAT plug hooked up because it shouldn't be throwing that code. It's easy to mix it up with the EVAP and other 2 prong plugs nearby. There would be no reason to have rewired that sensor or anything so it's probably unplugged or not hooked up right.
For the VTEC pressure switch, go over your wiring and make sure you have the proper pinout wired.

do you think that the IAT not being plugged in cause the VTEC code to be thrown? i am going to use the IAT from my stock cx manifold b/c the y8 doesn't have the IAT on the manifold, it comes on the stock intake tube which i dont have. so i am just gonna drill my aem and see what happens.

you have pm about the side skirts-i wanna pick em up sunday if you'll be around. let me know

i put the iat on my intake and code 10 went away. but later came back on, but my idle is still fine.
vtec was fixed too, one bad connection.
