Engine swap for 1995 Honda Odyssey. Can anyone help Install?
The block on my Odyssey cracked during one of those rain storms here in So. California and since I have to replace the engine I wanted to see if I had some performance options, so if any of you can help with your input I'd really appreciate it.
Current Engine: F22B6 Non-Vtec stock
1. Go the cheap route and just replace the block.
2. Swap in F22B1 Vtec engine (continue using stock auto transmission).
2a. What else would I need since my stock set-up is non-vtec?
2b. Is there any downside to using this engine?
or
3. H22 Block with Crower rods, JE pistons, Benson sleeves(compresion for turbo). H22 Vtec head port & polish, H22 intake manifold with RC fuel injectors 550cc. Still using stock F22 auto transmission.
3a. What else would I need to make vtec functional?
3b. Is there any downside to using this set-up?
Set-up 1 is something I'd do so my wife doesn't get on my back about how much this is going to cost.
Set-up 2 is another option I'd use because I can justify the cost plus I can have a little more performance.
Set-up 3 I'd have to lie to my wife a little to have her approve of the cost of going this route but It would have much more performance than I need (that's a good thing) because I would like to have a 2nd turbocharged car. I found someone selling this set-up so everything is ready to drop into the engine bay.
The first two options should be a snap to have done but the 3rd option I feel would be a much harder task and I already confirmed that the F22 tranny will work with the H22 but I need some help regarding the additional parts that I need to make this work and a estimation on the additional parts and labor would help a lot!
I'm located in Torrance, CA. and I would like to work with a shop that has experience with H22 swaps since I've heard that the swaps were identical. Please get into contact with me ASAP with a quote.
Thanks guys!

Just reading this makes me think "oh snap".
Do you know how funny it would be to see some ricer get smoked by an odyssey? I mean, imagine this:
Some riced out car with some teenager who thinks his car is fast pulls up next to an odyssey at a stoplight...
The odyssey, NOT THE RICER, gives a little rev to the ricer.
The ricer thinks, WTF IS THIS IDIOT DOING, IMA SMOKE HIS ***.
Then all he sees is the back of the damn thing as he's redlining.
So funny to imagine.
Good luck hope you DO this.

Re: (projectegr)
if you actually go through with the h22 swap, you WILL have to take out the back seats n get some track times
oh, and the stock f22 tranny should hold up just fine...until you turbo it

Talk to a shop like Hasport.
You will probably have a pretty close to simple swap, but it sounds like you haven't ever done one before. If this is your daily driver, take it to a shop or get a friend in teh know.

Epecially if your going to do a manual swap. If your just dropping in the H22 with the stock tranny, you could probably just do it yourself.

I think if hes going to keep it auto, just to keep the stock tranny in place.
If your going to keep the stock tranny and add all of that power, upgarde the tranny BIG time. Honda auto trannies suck. Did I mention they suck? ALOT, I mean it. 'm not kidding.

Why not just do the obvious - drop in a V6 from a newer Odyssey. Or perhaps another V6 from some other Honda/Acura model. You must admit that a 3.2 liter, 270HP Type-S would be WORLDS better than ANY four-banger. And you could even use one of the available six speed manuals!

just do an auto H22 swap. and since it's a 95, it's OBD1.. it'll be easy to wire up.
man, if i were local, i'd come and help you throw it in just to see how it runs. lol.

Sounds like an interesting project. Turbo H22 would be awesome. You'd hear the BOV and everyone would look around wondering if it's something behind the van. lol
