The End All for out of bay Crank Bolt problems.
A lot of people have asked this and there are a million responses which are hard as crap to sift through so here it is. I FINALLY got my H22A belts changed today like this:
Remove Starter.
Shove Crobar in Flywheel Teeth nice and tight.
Use your 1/2" breaker bar with your 36" galvanized steel pipe over it and gently press down.
Bolt will break with no problems at all.
I can't believe how simple it was. It almost made me mad. Finally I can get my engine in.
And whoever posted the starter thing in the first place THANK YOU. Just posted it this way to make it easier to find.

I have the IR 2131 1/2" impact and it will have trouble removing crank pulley bolts sometimes.
So, I got the IR 3/4" gun in the composite case (same as the 2131 but 3/4" drive) and that thing will take anything off (or break it trying) .

How well does this work with the engine out of the bay? Any problems keeping everything from turning?

How much for the IR impact gun? 1/2" and the 3/4" gun?
NM I found out, depending whether you want normal duty or super heavy duty (3/4") those run from $360 - $470 at sears. The 1/2" is $200 as is the 3/8".

If I remember correctly, the 1/2" gun was about $230 or so.
The 3/4" IR composite gun ran me about $550-$600.
I also have the 3/8" IR composite impact also. That is my favorite tool. It can be used for just about anything. You can remove lugs, get in tight places and get tight bolts, etc. The 3/8" IR cost more than the 1/2" IR impact. Go figure.

I have another suggestion my friend (SIDan) and I came up with. My H22 was still on the pallet, so we got some of those ratcheting nylon strap deals and wrapped one strap around the crank pulley journal 2 times, and hooked the hooks on either side of the pallet. the second strap went the opposite direction on the other journal. Then, all I needed was a breaker bar and the correct socket. It popped right off.. at $16.99, works good.

Here is the best place to buy a IR 2131...I bought my IR 2131 from Harborborfreight.com on sale for $169...but I found this other site later and it had it for a cheaper price so i bought a whole bunch of impact sockets and other IR tools...there prices and service are great...and they offer free shipping on you first order of $100 or more...oh and no I dont work for them...I am just trying to share info on a good deal
Hey also one other thing...when using a impact gun on a bolt that wont come off...make sure you are using a quality hose...try to use the shortest length hose needed to reach the bolt...a 25ft hose instead of a 50 ft hose will give you more power...also make sure you buy high quality quick release fittings...if they are cheaply built they can restrict pressure resulting in an impact gun that will never reach max torque ratings...just make sure all the parts are quality parts...not just the gun!!

IR 2131 1/2 inch drive $159.44

IR 2141 3/4inch drive $361
