Default Is this an easy way to do a LS/VTEC setup? *warning: swap n00bie*

I was originally thinking of picking up a LS shortblock and B16 head and going from there, but figuring the cost of finding everything I need and actually tracking everything down, wouldn't it be easier to buy a full B16 swap from HMO or something, and just swap the LS shortblock in for the B16 shortblock (as well as doing the necessary mods) before it goes in the car?

Sorry for the n00bness, I'm a SOHC turbo ninja

probably, you would get the b16 tranny and everything you need to do it.

Or you could put the b16 in and run it while you put together the b18 bottom end. But then you have to pull it back out agian.

Or you could bore and sleeve the b16 block to 84mm giving you a 1.7l engine with nice 9mm rod bolts, a good 1.74:1 r/s ratio and all the other cool goodies built into the VTEC blocks. (oil pump, vtec squirters...etc._)

yeah, except for torque.

and wouldn't 84mm make it a 2.0L with a shorter stroke? *WARNING* I KNOW NOTHING!

Actually this is not a bad idea. You already have the turbo kit. All you need is a b-series turbo manifold and everything should still work, of course oil lines and stuff will need to be fitted, but that is easy.

I say just get the LS complete engine/trans for dirt cheap, throw your turbo on it, and then save up for a gsr to build while your smoking a lot of kids out there.

no to make it a 2.0l youd need a longer stroke, like an 89mm from an LS/B20 block. With the b16 crank and 84mm bore youd be at 1.7l.

why not get a gsr block, and put a ls crank in it?

that would be a true ls/vtec

no, cuz the oil squirters get in the way of the counterweights on the LS crank. Plus youd have to use LS rods so the pistons wouldnt stick 'out of the hole'. By the time you get done replacing all the GSR stuff, you might as well just have used an LS block. Theyre also cheaper and more plentiful.

Because LSVTEC is the response to the cost of the GSR block. In theory LSVTEC is cheaper, but thats up for discussion in many other threads

bump

my other option is to buy a LS shortblock, throw some CP pistons and Eagle rods in it, stock bore or 81.5mm. Then find a B16 head (how high do they flow stock? 400whp or so before porting is needed?), GSR tranny, etc. etc...but that'll be a pain in the *** IMO.

Like posted above.
Get a b16 swap and swap and an LS block. Then you get the tranny, ecu etc.

What would you consider the "right" way to build a stock LS/VTEC setup for turbo?

I thought of:
-ARP rod bolts
-Golden Eagle LS/VTEC conversion kit
-ITR water/oil pump
-B16 head w/ITR cams & cam gears (not sure what type)
-ITR intake mani (or some other one, I know nothing yet)
-etc. etc.

thoughts? should I get a blockguard on a stock internal motor?
