Dumb ? kinda but...do transmissions need to be for example a 99 civic with 2000 LS motor, does the trans need to be 1999+ or can it be any B series (so long as its legal and the numbers are good)???? Just for future knowledge if i move to CA. Thanks.

How would a transmission affect emissions?

They don't. I know that. I am not aware of all the small details that go along with the CARB process so i am just planning for the future to make sure my car passes with flying colors.

Actually I'm pretty sure the tranny does have to be the correct one. I don't know if year matters... but it has to be the tranny meant for that motor.

I spoke with the ref down here in chula vista about this. He said that when you're doing an engine swap and trying to get the BAR sticker you cannot mix/match anything. The swap you're doing has to have all the parts for that motor. So if you put a 94 gsr motor into a 92 integra, you'd need to run the tranny that came with the gsr motor, you couldn't run a cable tranny like the 92's are set up for.

With all this said... does it really matter? No. I don't see any ref actually checking this sort of thing. And I know tons of instances where people have done swaps and the tranny hasn't mattered at all and they still got BAR stickers. So, I guess if they really wanted to be a stickler, they could check and fail you, but as long as you're not an ******* to them, and as long as the rest of the swap is legit and not too shady I don't see why they'd even bother checking, let alone actually failing you because of it.

hmm never heard of that, I'm going to get my B18c1 ref'd when I'm done and I'm using a JDM YS1 for a tranny (swap going into a 89 CRX Si) then again I've heard alot of diff stuff from diff Refs

I wouldn't worry about it at all. The chance of him checking the tranny is basically zero. Just make sure you have the basics:
-b18c1 block w/ p72 head
-the p72 "upside down" intake manifold
-use ALL the smog equiptment off of the gsr.... just because you have similar parts on the crx doesn't mean they will still pass you. A friend of mine leared this the hard way with the h22 in his accord.
-make sure any bolt ons are carb legal

Be as nice as you can to the ref, try not to act shady, be completely honest and open with the guy. These guys have people try to pull the wool over their eye's all the time, especially with Honda engine swaps. Don't think you know more than they do....they know a surprisingly large amount about Hondas and any little tricks someone may be trying to use in order to get the Bar sticker. They'll be looking for that sorta thing.

When I ask the local Referee, he said that it had to be the one that came with the engine. But he also said that he doesn't look real close (wink, wink).

I think that unless you did something to **** off the Referee, you will not have a problem with it not matching.
