DO I NEED AN OBD2-1 HARNESS?!?!?!?
well guys , i have a 92 si hatchback with a 99 gsr motor in it, i used to have a 95 gsr motor in it (obd1) but i blew that motor
i thought that if u wanted to run the 99 gsr (obd2) motor to the obd1 ecu, u would need the skunk2 harness to change it to obd1, but my mechanic says the motor pluggeg rite in to the ecu
am i doing sumthin qrong? do i need the harness so it will run right?
i already got it runnin and it seems to be runnin fine witht the obd1 ecu but i dont want my motor to blow again cuz i didnt get da harness! sum1 hellllllllllp

Re: DO I NEED AN OBD2-1 HARNESS?!?!?!? (GSRHATCH187)
it'll be fine, u'd only need an obd2-1 harness IF you want to use an obd1 ecu w/ an obd2 car, or wanted to use an obd1 motor in an obd2 car using the obd1 ecu...

Since your 92 Si is already OBD1 equipped, stick with your 95 GSR ecu to power your OBD2 B18C engine...its compatible and will totally work. You don't need the Skunk2 harness at all. Screw using the OBD2 GSR ecu, OBD1 is better anyways.
For engine wiring, you can totally use the 99/OBD2 engine harness that hopefully came with your B18C (if its a US B18C). It will plug n ' play into your EG's engine bay (minus a couple plugs that aren't used anyways) and your 95 GSR ecu will work fine/be compatible with the OBD2 engine electronics/ignition parts.

Does he have to worry about the generational change, and how IABs are triggered?

Specifically what I meant was, some generations of the GSR have the IABs triggered via 12v, and some via a GND signal. the poster can search.

no the 99 gsr will plug right into an eg's engine harness vtec and all because its an si only need to wire secondaries and knock sensor
