distinguishing between heads
ive been looking for a dohc vtec head to finish my ls vtec..some guy around where i live told me that he will sell me his complete b16b head with type r cams and valvetrain for 300..he says its been laying around for a while and he doesnt mind getting rid of it.. so my question is how can i tell the difference between type r cams, valve train, and a b16b head from all the other heads and componets.. are there any marks , letters , or numbers on the head and parts.. i searched and it said that type r cams have to grooves on the distributor side of them.. and i know that type r valve trains have dual valve springs and all the other heads dont.. so if any one can tell me what i should look for when i look at the head ( prob tomm or the day after).. pictures would be great .. thanks in advance for your help.

well like you said the type-r cams have the groves on the dizzy side of the cams, but on the head it should be stamped just like the B16A head which is PR3 but in the ports of the head you should be able to notice a factory port job (which isn't really a lot but it's noticable) and also check for the dual springs on the exhaust side. intake manifold will look like an ITR/skunk2 and throttle body will be 64mm. Hope this helps... -Jason
