Difference bet. Accord and Prelude Shifter for H22A Swap ???
Is there ANY difference at all from using the original 92-96 prelude shifter box and cables for an H22A Swap into an EG compared to using the 90 up Accord shifter box and cables ???
I am asking because my so called "complete" swap did not come with the shifter box and just the 92-96 prelude shifter cables so I just ended up buying a complete accord shifter assembly with cables today.

bump would like to know also. i used 90 accord shifter cables and the gear selector cable is an extremely tight fit...to the point where i can only shift into the 1,3 and 5th gears.
wondering if prelude cables are longer than accord?

The Accord shifter is FINE. I'm using one and so are many others I know. You want to know what the difference is? One has plastic parts on the base and the other one has steel. Other than that there is NO difference at all.

Re: (pcguy760)
how about the cables themselves? i'm trying to find out if the prelude cables will work with the accord shifter and if they are longer than the accord cables.

I think I read somewhere on here that the prelude cables are a little bit longer... I dunno wether both from Accord and Prelude are interchangeable though... Anyone knows?

92-96 prelude shifters have shorter throw. 97-01 prelude shiftsres have plastic bases.
90 accord shifters can ONLY be used with 90 accord cables. 91-97 accord shifters will be all metal nad have longer throws than the prelude ones.
for ease you usually do best buying the shifter with cables attached....though 92-96 lude and 91-97 accord cables will for the most part interchange and work well enough of you make adjustments for length differences.

Re: (v4lu3s)

Hey yes it's true about the 91-97 Accord shifter, it works great but it does have some long (diesel truck ) throws when going thru the gears! Also, the gear stick is kinda tall so it sits kinda high. Later on I probably would swap it out for the Prelude one for shorter throws...

Re: (pcguy760)
i finally got the cables run correctly, except i broke the housing on the gear selector cable so i only have 2, 4 and reverse now haha. i ended up cutting a hole a few inches to the right of the heater core and that seems to work fine.

Hey did you cut the hole near the heater core to run the cables?? I just made a hole a few inches infront of the shifter assembly and ran them under the car - I noticed that took a really sharp bend coming from underneath and going onto the tranny but it works fine.
BTW, you should cable tie the cables together every few inches - I read on here that it makes them perform better. Oh and how did you end up breaking something in the shifter assembly? It seemed pretty strong unless you have the plastic one perhaps ...

i originally made a hole in front of the shifter and ran them but they were too tight. i even ran them btwn the rear crossmember and chasis and still too tight. i'll take your advice on tieing them together, makes sense.
i broke the housing on the gear selector cable about 2 or 3 inches from the cable end that goes on the tranny. literally right after the clip on the tranny end. i was trying to run them underneath the car and was pulling them so tightly and to a 90 deg angle that i snapped it.
and this is the '92 cable so it's the metal one. so i'll have to go back to the junkyard and pull one.
but it seems to start fine in 2nd gear. hell, it starts and rolls in 4th gear...lugs a bit, but oh well. i dont even need 1st or 3rd ahaha.

Re: Difference bet. Accord and Prelude Shifter for H22A Swap ???
in finding the difference between the sets of cables and the sets of shifters, i found this post to be the most suiting for posting my reply.
the accord and prelude "unmentionable" shifters have a few very subtle design differences.
seing as how i only have 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear, and imm looking to build a shifter kit around these shifter box frames, ill be seeing a few of them.
