did anyone expect more out of the b18c1???
i recently swapped in a b18c1 into my 93 si. the motor runs great. i did all the maintanence while it was out of the car. but i really was expecting more out of this motor. i only had i/h/e/cam gear on the d16z6 and it pulled pretty good. on the c1 i have i/sknk2 Mani/h/tp/e/p/cam grz/ flywhl/ chip. now dont get me wrong, it pulls a good bit harder across the board but it just doesnt feel like i can go whoop mustangs.
anyone feel this way when they first did the swap????

do a comp test, maybe its not running up to par. I used to have a Dx Egg with gsr and i/h and it used to feel like i was going to rip the pavement up.

haha funny you should ask that because i was thinking the same way as i drove into school today. Does your motor ever feel slower at times and faster at others? Does it ever feel like you have a wide power band pulling hard even before 4500 vtec, then other times not? Mine does lol. I have a B18c in my 93 dx hatch with i/e/skunk2 intake mani and at times it feels strong as ****, but at others it seems to want to hesitate like i missed trhe power band or something!? Anyways most of the time it feels slow is in the middle of the day with the temps. very hot. At night when its cooler out it seems to want to get up and go all of a sudden? But with all the work you have done to it, it should be really quick, but im not sure what you expectations are of it? Made it is not running up to par?

it has great compression. like i said, it runs great. i guess i was just expecting a little more torque. if i keep it above 5200 it pulls really good. i guess i just have to go to the track and find out. i drove my friends GSR with i/h/e to compare and my car is a good bit quicker. he ran mid 15's his first time ever at the track. so i am guessing that i can hit mid to low 14's.
i also have a phantom grip installed which gave me pretty good traction. i cant chirp 3rd at all. maybee thats why it doesnt seem as fast.
im thinking that ctr cams would do a world of justice to my set up with the 5200 vtec x-over. or maybee just a vafc and lower the x-over to about 4700

What elevation are you at? I have seen plenty of people with B18c hatchs run mid to high 13's with just i/e/h.

my friends gsr isnt in a hatch. its a 94 integra gsr with over 100k on it. i dont drag race much, so im not expecting to hit its max potential. ill be happy if i hit low 14's. ill be extatic if i can break into the 13's. im only at about 500 above sea level.
i did race a newer maxima the other night and put a good 3-4 cars on it by 6500 in 3rd. im not sure what they run in the 1/4, but i was still pulling on it when i shut it down.

maybe get a new clutch and flywheel...especially a nice flywheel, that'll help your acceleration. or maybe its just like everyone else when they get new power...
you get used to it hell jus boost it

i already have a nice clutch and flywheel. ACT prolite 8.8lbs and ACT heavy duty pp with street organic disk.
i guess im not really dissapointed with the swap, im really just amazed at how good of an engine the d16z6 is. my car is much faster now, but i gotta say that z6 pulled pretty good for what it is.
as far as the boost goes, ive considered it. but since my car is set up for and i intend on using it for road racing and some autocross, i think i will just build it natural when i can save up the cash for a complete rebuild. NA AINT CHEAP

Temperature effects it alot, nighttime brings out the beast in my b18c. Also, most GSr motors are OBD II and those ECU's are constantly changing fuel/ignition maps, sometimes theres good days and sometimes bad. ANd remember, si's are pretty heavy, 2350 i think.

I love my r swap, pulls hard and have raced some v8's (at the drag strip of course) and feel thats its rather fast...although nitrous is probably on the way
But what SUCKS is I recently took a vacation and wound up at sea level ( I live at a 5600 elevation) and my car was so much faster there and now that I am back home it seems slow.
Smoother power makes you feel like you aren't going that fast sometimes so I would take it to the track and see what it runs and then you'll know where youre at.

YES, I knew that those hot temps were effecting the motor. My car feels hesitent in the day when its 95+ degrees outside, but at night it seems to run ALOT smoother a quicker. Thats interesting about what you said about the OBD2 engines and the fuel/ignition maps, but thats not my case becuase mine is an OBD1 motor.
Feeling the B18C lovin' in this thread

Re: did anyone expect more out of the b18c1??? (dohcVTEChatch)
Mine is throwing codes and I am still trying to figure it out since yesterday
6 short 1 long 1 short 1 long
like wtf that can't be 6, 11, 10
11 don't exist
But I still love my B18C1 it pulls good during day/night but sometimes just feels weird maybe it's because I am throwing Primary O2 sensor
but then my codes should be 61 and 10
where in the world can I find the Intake Air Temperature Sensor??? I am guessin on the Intake manifold is it the one on the top of it?????
All I have is AEM CAI (no by-pass) Stock headers, stock cat, 00' ITR midpipe and Spoon N1
I am going boost so I don't need to buy headers heehheheh
Oh ya this is a 99' OBD2 B18C1 in a 00' FBP Civic hatch

Re: did anyone expect more out of the b18c1??? (JDM_ek9)
Iwent from a 2001 GSR with a b18c1 block with CTR pistons balanced and blueprinted, fully ported and polished b16 head with JUN IIIs (12:1) compression. Top end was rediculous, and now I have a 2001 GSR with a JDM ITR motor and trans, perfect compression across the board, and i think to myself while im driving that it seems so smooth when it revs, like its not making power, but then id put like 10 car lenths on a 2000 5sp Prelude like I did today
