Default d16y8 into 93 cx-knock sensor & 4 wire o2 conversion///just need some clarification-no dumb question

i am finishing up the wiring part of my swap. 1997 d16y8 into my 1993 cx hatch. is knock one or 2 wires?? on all the diagrams i have read and downloaded it is only one wire to the ecu. but the actual plug on the back of the block has 2 wires. can someone clear this up for me?? also does the 4 wires for the o2 have to be run to the ecu directly or different places?? chiltos has me a little unsure.. thanks

Knock sensor is 1 wire. It should have only 1 wire pin inside it as well inside the knock sensor.

As for the O2 sensor, run 4 wires to the ECU directly.

WHT-> WHT-> D14 (O2 input)
GRN -> GRN/WHT -> which is spliced with the IAT, but GRN/WHT is the sensor ground doing to D22. You can splice it with the GRN/WHT wire at the IAT though.
BLK -> YEL/BLK -> Sensor positive which goes to the power junction harness, but this goes to A25 or B1.
BLK -> ORG/BLK -> to A6 which is Heater Control.

1) knock sensor is a single wire for OBD1 Honda's.
2) run the 4-wire 02 str8 to the ecu.

can I suggest an easier route for you on this swap?

For wiring, use an 96-98/OBD2 INTEGRA engine harness, it's compatible with your 93 CX and will plug to the D16Y8 engine without problems. Some plugs will be left unplugged/unused, and thats ok. It also has the 4-wire 02 wiring embedded into it...so you won't have to wire that up at all.

For the ecu, find yourself a stock P28 ecu. The factory programm on a P28 ecu does not look for a knock sensor (KS), so you obviously won't have to wire it up. If you don't know what a P28 ecu is, its a 92-95 SOHC VTEC (Si/EX) ECU. I suggest sticking with a P28 whichever route you go on your swap.....you don't wanna use the D16Y8 EX OBD2 ecu...its sucks by far in comparison to the MIGHTY P28!!!

Katman, sounds like a good idea, but just wondering.....since the Integra 96-98 Harness is compatible with the CX main harness, with the Integra embedding the 4 wire O2 sensor, he would still have to wire up the 4 wire O2 sensor from the shock tower to the ECU.

Correct on this?

nope, the 02 wiring in all OBD1 civics are already prewired with the 4-wire 02 sensor from the ecu out to the main harness plugs on the passengerside shock tower, no matter what model EG civic you own (CX/DX/VX/Si)

Ok, coo. Thanks for the clarification

I wasn't sure on that part.

that's right....NO KS. A P28 doesn't look for a KS. For some reason honda put KS's on 96+ SOHC engines though, prolly because the HX engine has a high compression ratio.
