considering staying with a SOHC powerplant for a couple reasons...
first off, i have a 1992 DX hatch.
mainly simplicity, weight and money. although i have good deals readily available on B series and even really cheap prices for H series engines... D series looks really fun. I'm thinking a D16A6 (due to its bottom end strength) with a ported Z6 head, ported Y8 manifold, CRV throttle body or something similar...
and then a nice big Holset Turbo.
or I could get an H22 swap which requires a bit of money time and effort... playing around with SOHCs is cheap and easy for a poor student like me... although i'm hardcore into this ****... i think SOHC would be something good to wet my feet with.
reasons why i'm afraid of D series:
-not designed as a performance engine by Honda. therefore many weak links in the makeup... unlike H series... very performance orientated and stout in all areas.
-driveline questionable when big power is produced...
-quafies are expensive and OEM LSD is meak.
reasons why i like D series:
-build it up in stages
-bore/stroke ratio not bad for turbo
-lightweight
-cheap and easy
-stock-like "coherence" of components
comments and opinions... suggestions?

SOHC engines are cheap and disposable. If you toast one, its not a big deal...there is an abundance of engines, trannys, and parts for the d-series. Thats the biggest benefit IMO. Along with a decent aftermarket.
But after you get your setup together, its almost definite that you'll eventually want more. This is were B & H series come into the picture. Yes, they are spendy engines and the parts are more $$. But for the most part, the potential is greater with DOHC engines.
The weight difference between the SOHC and DOHC really isnt an issue to determine your decision.

Re: (SC0TT)
yeah, its more of an excuse... although i suppose with tranny and everything the D and H have a huge difference in weight...
damn Z6... why can't your head flow like a B16A? lol. that would sure make things easier.

I just can't deal with the H22 weight in my EG. That engine leaves my girlfriend's 5th gen 'lude very nose-heavy.
I have a small turbo on my D15B, and I know I am over 200whp. I also only added about 35 pounds to the front of my car.
