Default Checking if Motor is legal

Who do you call if the a motor you are going to buy is legal ? I tried calling
DMV or Highway Patrol and they don't help?

Well, CA is tricky. Supposedly all JDM motors are illegal, but there are some BAR approved JDM motors out there. Also, the motor has to be the same year or newer than the car, and have all emissions equipment connected properly.

what i meant was to check if the motor is stolen or not.
