Default Car start 50% of time?

What's up guys so I got this 96 civic coupe and it had an b18b1 ls swap and engine bay has full wire tuck and battery relocated to the trunk. So car starts probably 50% of the time and I looked at the starter I could tell the previous owner had been beating on it more then likely to get it to start and I took it to auto zone to get it check and the guy said battery is full charge and that it's probably wiring issue and my ground post on the battery is literally only ran to a bolt on the car not to anything else wiring wise which I think it should be? And the passenger window will not roll down but will roll up and not sure why I replace motor and regulator and the window will roll up but not down has power to both wires running to male plug for window motor. So I'm thinking bad ground any idea. Not sure what that is in picture any idea?

If the starter has evidence of external damage I would replace that first.

The ground should be a larger size cable, of roughly the same diameter of the power cable. It is typically ran to a bolt on the vehicle chassis which is normal as long as the cable is an acceptable gauge wire with a clean connection

If I hit the starter a bit it'll fire right up

It's unclear whether this is a no-crank problem or a cranks but won't start problem.

It cranks on the first try but after that it doesn't at all, but it has power to the radio and the lights on the cluster. I get out and tap the starter a couple times lightly with a hammer and it fires up every time.

If the fuel pump primes, then replace the starter.

Starter solenoid high current contacts are worn out, replace the starter.

I would also redo that batt. ground, as mentioned go with a thicker gauge and ground it to the floor pan, a rear seat belt bolt will work great, you also need a vented, [to the outside] batt. box for your relocated batt.

You should also have a ground cable from the chassis to the engine/transaxle , do you?

What gauge is the batt. pos. cable and where/how is it connected up in the engine bay? 94

Could still be a wiring issue. If it cranks, and then doesn't, the wires can be getting hot and increasing the resistance.

Usually, if the starter is stuck, you will still hear a clicking noise when you turn the key, and you can hit the starter to get it loose.

+1. Battery acid is going to eat up your carpet, body, etc.

Usually when you put the battery in the trunk you take the opportunity to upgrade to a larger battery instead of the wimpy (yet expensive) size 51 that is the only size which will fit in the stock location.

Professionally crimped lugs would also help. You get a bad connection at best mashing them with pliers like the installer here did.

Like someone else said, the engine or transmission needs to be grounded to the body with a heavy cable, not just the little one from the valve cover to the radiator support. That little cable is just a helper.
