Default Bored out B16A block vs. stock B18C1 block

Which is a better choice to a starting point for an all motor engine? With the money I would spend getting overbore higher CR pistons put in my current B16, I could buy a GSR block. Without taking into account the higher CR the bored out B16 would have, which is smater starting point?

hmm well you already got the B16, making it a 1.8 with high CR is going to be a great starting point for all motor. I'd just go for that $ wise

gsr bumped to 2.0 would be nice but $/time considering your situation

Thats what I have been thinking, but I thought I remember reading somewhere, that even boring out the B16 to an appr. 1.8, it wont be the same as the 1.8 that the stock GSR is. I dont see how this could be so I thought I would ask. Would the B16A bored out to a 1.8 with a stock head, be pretty much the same thing as the stock GSR, assuming I used equal CR pistons in the B16 (which I wont, but just for comparisons sake).

boring out a B16a to 1.8L or close to that, is a cool thing to do if you retain the B16's fabulous rod ratio (did i just say 'fabulous'?)...but its $$$. Put it this way, the money you spend on boring out a B16A and rebuilding it will probably cost you more than just buying a used B18C shortblock....even a type-R short block. But then again, finding a used B18C/C5 short block isn't too easy these days.

It's all up to user preference though. good luck on whichever route you go

Whats an average labor cost just to bore it out, install the pistons, install new bearings and thrusts, install new rod bolts and reassemble? And is having the crank balanced and polished a must?
