Black Can Near Oil Filter? PICS
I am in the process of completing an lsvtec w/ b18b1 block b18c1 head. Upon finishing up the swap i realized that the black rectangular can/canister on the back of the block near the oil filter from my gsr doesnt fit into the b18b1 block. Can someone pleace identify the name of this part for me, and what its purpose is?
The 2nd hole down(under the plugged hole) where it connects to the block.

Re: Black Can Near Oil Filter? PICS (510gsrhatch)
Its desing to to collect oil vapors that the engine sucks up thru the PCV system at high rpm's so they dont end up in you intake manifold. Its called an oil/vapor catch can, on LSV setups you have to buy an external one like Greddy or ENDYN. This have been covered alot on LSV buildups , use the search and you will find a lot of info.

Arent the oil catch can and breather chamber two seperate parts? Im asking about the part in the pic above, isnt that a breather chamber and not a oil catch can? Also isnt the external catch can only necessary when boosting?

Re: Black Can Near Oil Filter? PICS (510gsrhatch)
Its called breather chamber on stock aplications, otherwise is a oil/vapor catch can. It comes on all vtec B series engines and b18a engines but was deleted from the b18b and b20 engines. the catch can is not only used in turbo cars also on n/a engines. I always use them on my LSV or CRV buildups......hope this answers your questions.
