Best way to spend 7K (canadian) ! *edit*
Hello, so I've finally amassed a descent sum in order to get some power out of my 2000 DX Coupe.
The plan so far is the following:
1. JDM B18C (4500$ installed)
2. I/H/E (300$ for intake, 700$ for header, 200$ for custom exhaust 2.25" done locally - already have 2.25" from axle-back) (1200$ alltogether)
3. Lightened flywheel (400$) and a set of cams (800$)
I'm looking at 6900$. I'm planning on fully stripping the car, including the sound deadning plates in the rear by the fuel lines, all panels and seats, etc. Will only have driver's side Sparco w/ harness and that's about it for the interior. Of course, empty trunk.
I'm thinking this setup will run about a low 14.
And it will cost me nearly 7 thousand CAN dollars.
Does anyone here think there is a better solution? My goal isn't really the 1/4 mile as much as I would like to go race around nearby tracks and my suspension consists of Neuspeed Race, Koni Yellow SP3's, upper strut bars in front and rear, rear lower tie bar and rear Suspension Tech 18mm rear sway bar.
I'm thinking an H22 would be cheaper and quicker in the straight line, yet cause too much understeer when booting around a track. Am I right? I heard it weights 160lbs more then a B series engine!

If you plan on road racing the thing, you might want to consider brake and tire up grades before the I/H/E. They are the most vital part in racing. Even a little track like Shannonville (noticed that you are from Ottawa) could smoke the brakes after a couple of laps. Good luck!

Re: Best way to spend 6K (743motorsport)
The car's a DX, I've spent some money on cosmetics such as painting all non-painted parts from Honda, and I can't stand the look of 6th gen hatches, nor do I want to go to a near 10year old car by buying a 5th gen hatch.
So the car I'm keeping. It weights 2359lbs stock, minus all the stripping, minus sound deadning plates, minus passenger seat, it should get closer to 2200lbs. Good enough for me.
As for brakes, front rotors and pads are planned as well for sure. We'll see about a rear disc conversion.

understeer with h22 civic/integra is the biggest load of **** i've heard.
unless you are rolling on 175/65R13 wheels and no rear sway, then I can see some input, but I highly doubt it.
H22EK knows what he's talkin about!

Darn, everytime I make up my mind someone always makes me see another option!
Would I be correct in saying Koni Yellow + Neuspeed Race is OK for an H22?

No, there's nothing wrong with the 5th gen... it's the nicest hatch Honda ever made IMO. But you know what?
I don't want an EG hatch that runs high 12s with an H22 and some bolt ons. There's too many of those out there. And the 5th gen bar in Ottawa is impossible to smote, Chris Tapp has one that put out 432whp last year, 515whp this year, and god knows how much next year.
There's just too many done up EG hatches out there, and I would never let go of my EK Coupe's looks, just for a tad bit less weight and/or shorter wheelbase!

It may drive well on the streets and you might not even noticed the difference if you are just cruising on the streets. But try it on a road course and you will agree that the B/civic combo will mop the floor with a H/civic combo. Regardless of suspension tuning, you can't compensate for the added weight in the front causing more wight distribution biase.

Re: Best way to spend 6K (H22EK)
If I had the money for such a trip, I wouldn't be doing up my Civic!
I wish more hardcore all-motor people lived in Ottawa... everyone's got boost here.
Althouh boost is fun, my friend had a 3-speed automatic 97 Corolla that ran 14.4... pretty funny !
