Best Frankenstein Setup For My EF?
OK I have an 88 DX hatch with the crummy SOHC non-VTEC motor in it. Sorry if I sound like a n00b but I'm not a diehard gerhead so bear with me. I want to do a frankenstein setup for my EF but I'm looking at all my possible options before I start jumping into things. First, should I just go ahead and buy a motor and build it up or just build one from scratch so I can be sure it will be a good/strong/lasting motor? I also want to boost my engine eventually so I'm going to set the motor up to be able to handle the boost but I want my EF to also be streetable but fast as it can be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Best Frankenstein Setup For My EF? (AE86man)
OH and BTW if anyone says to search, I already did and I have LOTS of info but I just wanted to get some more feedback from other people to see if anyone has a frankenstein powered EF or any advice they'd like to give. I'd really like to build the motor from scratch if possible but if it would be more efficient to just buy a motor and rebuild it then whatever.

i see what everyone says, but if u have the money, my older brother droped a B18c1 into his, he ran a YS1 tranny, and a AEM fuel rail, PR3 ecu (Stock)and street clutch. he ran 14.5 1/4 mile, not fast but fast for a 90 civic sedan, with minor stuff added.if i had money i would do a B18c1, or C5, with a S80 tranny. (ITR tranny)

Build, build, build! If you want a strong and lasting motor, it's best to do it to the fullest with a fresh empty block. Forged pistons + rods and sleeved for sure!

I would start with a B18A/B LS block and have it sleeved to 84-85mm which will put you to about 2.0L displacement. Quite a few companies offer this service - Golden Eagle, Benson Machine, Dart, etc. Throw in some CP Pistons (9:1 comp) and Eagle H-Beam rods along with a knife-edged and micropolished OEM crank which will handle boost no problem. This combined with your choice of a VTEC head would definitely be a "nice" streetable setup.

Re: Best Frankenstein Setup For My EF? (VTECVillain)
OK thanks for all the info VTECvillain! I guess I'll go to the local scrap yard and try to find an LS block and go from there. What I really want to do is have the block sent somewhere to have as much done to it as possible (blueprinted, sleeved, etc.) but I know that will cost some money but it'll be worth it in the long run I guess. As for the head, which would be better? B18 or B16 or what?

Re: Best Frankenstein Setup For My EF? (AE86man)
You'll save yourself some time and money if you just use the B18a/B18b head. VTEC shmeetec. If your motor is sleeved and boosted, whether or not it has VTEC is almost irrelevant. BTW vtecvillain is right, LS turbo is what I would do if I was gonna build another honda, hands down.
I didn't know what you meant by Frankenstein... most people use that term to refer to LS/VTEC setups and what not.
