Default B20Z dyno - 168 HP and 159 TQ at the flywheel

I posted this in the FI and Kill Forums..but some of you might not read those forums so I thought it would be appropiate here as well.

I pulled 143.3 HP to the wheels and 135.4 FT-LBS TQ at the wheels which when calculated at a 15% flywheel-to-wheels loss is roughly 168 HP and 159 TQ

I was pretty pleased considering SIs with intake/header/exhaust were putting down 140-146 HP and only 100-102 TQ
I am even putting down more torque than JRSC SIs whcih were in the area of 131 FT-LBS

My current set up is:

B20Z2 non-VTEC
B18B1 LS intake manifold
3" diameter cold air intake
DC 4-1 header
Tanabe exhaust (2.5") without muffler
B&M fuel pressure regulator

Nice, Lots of real estate under that torque curve. I really think that the CRV-TEC is going to be the hot thing as people start to see what they can do. I would love to see a dyno of one with a decent streetable super or turbo charger.

Default Damn Nice.

Hey, that is a really strong motor there! I would really like to see what one would do with a b18c or b16 head on there.....I wonder if the GSR head would be better? That head is geared toward more lowend torque then the b16....seems it would be a good combination with a b20z.

If you guys check out the April 2001 issue of Turbo they have a EK9 with a B20B/B18C5 motor. The motor put out 347.1hp and 279.0lbs. ft. torque. Also runs 11.9 in the 1/4. Not bad at all. Daily driver too. After reading about this I've been thinking of doing it with my Ls. Not too sure yet. But sounds like a good set-up when built right.

I'm in the process of building that B20b4/B18c5 monster... My head is at Endyn right now getting port and polished. Decided to do that after finding out that TypeR heads purchased separately from the dealership do not have the factory hand port&polish job. I'm going with a full Endyn bottom end as well with 12:1 RW pistons. Now I'm just looking for a good header. I should have dyno plots up by the end of July sometime. I'm taking my time and building this beast right.

Yup it's turbo. Not too bad of a setup. I wish I had the money for it.

Good numbers for stock stuff mang.

I'm going out on a limb, but think about this.

The CRV block is made for torque right? and you're making the most HP AND Torque around 6k RPM (by graph) so here's what I'm thinking-

Get rid of the 4-1 and get a 4-2-1 (makes more HP mid-high RPM)
Get a Skunk2 intake manifold to improve flow
Get the Crower 404 cams, Ti retainers, Dual springs & some gears of your choice.
Chip the ECU
Mill the head .040 and have the head P&P'd by someone reputable
Then get it all Dyno tuned.

My guess is you'll gain about 20hp over the powerband.

Here's my Dyno on a stock bottom end LS with some of what I mentioned.

Not as much as you got, but close.

Good luck with your project & keep us updated!

webdog, that info about the itr head is false. i sell these heads at a rate of about 1-3 per week.

they have the port/polish from the factory. makes sense when u consider the fact that every month or two, they go on backorder for a few weeks.

i guess the little guys in white suits get busy and have to take some time off porting. lol.

btw, i had a straight LS motor.
81.5mm srp pistons(stock b16a compression)
portflow head w/ stock 98 LS cams, head milled 50 thou
dc 4-1, aem intake, modified itr intake manifold, no cat, 2.5" exh.
compression was high 11s:1

made 141 and 138 at the wheels.
midrange was sick. car was damn fast, especially considering the 99si trans it had.

never ran at the track. blew it up. oh well.... now the b20 is almost ready.

When I talked to larry at ENDYN about getting an ITR head he strongly suggested I get my b17a head port and polished rather than go with an ITR head. He said "If one of my guys did a port and polish job like you get on an ITR head I would fire them". They do a port and polish job but it is mostly just a quick clean up of rough edges.
