Default B20Z, all motor non-vtec.

I have been thinking of doing a swap and won't to stay all motor. What do you guys think about a B20Z non-vtec swap? I have seen a couple of guys making some good hp and tq numbers with these motors. I would use the car for some track events and daily commuting. Any suggestions on where to look for info, like tranny to use and ecu?

thanks, John

I just did this swap into a CRX and it is absolutely awesome, STOCK! not even an intake plus i am throwing codes from lack of fuel. I am running the LS tranny and it is an absolute blast to drive! I belive there is a guy in DFH named HXGUY with a b20z 170 to the wheels in a 97 coupe, you may want to speak with him or SONIC in DFH he is the one who did my swap with/for me.

LS tranny is lame

Well..it all depends on the setup really...and your redline.
If you stay with a stock redline...using a GSR tranny or SI tranny will result in ver short gears and a low top speed...like 4th will top out at 100 MPH!

Im using a GSR tranny and its great...an SI/ITR tranny might be better for acceleration...but I have a higher redline. Also I recommend a LS 5th gear.

LS (YS1 USDM) tranny is lame at the track, but since this is my daily driver its great. ~3750RPMs@80mph It is definately not a close ratio tranny tho...
HX guy-If you had to use a cable tranny with your motor what would you use?

It's a good swap, just did mine in the crx as well. getting all the niggles ironed out right now.

I've got the jdm s1 cable tranny. As mentioned, great for acceleration, but lousy for highway or cruising or gas mileage. I'm almost at 3000rpm driving 85 km/h..and the car just begs to go faster..

There goes my gasmileage..

But it's an awesome setup, a b20/vtec, properly built is gonna cost a lot! rods, pistons etc etc...

People underestimate the regular b20's
