b20 question/not b20vtec, just b20
Does anyone just cruise around with a b20 motor and gsr/ls/b16 tranny? If so how is it and if done what kinda times do these non vtecs run? Thanx for any info.

As long as you aren't doing a lot of freeway driving, the B16 and ITR tranny's are nice on the B20B/Z. It makes for really nice acceleration but they tach out quickly. If you will be doing a lot of freeway driving, I would stick with the GSR tranny which isn't too high or too low, an all around good tranny for most B series applications.

<---B20z motor w/ Crower 403's, i/h/c/e and a GSR tranny.
I absolutely love it. This is the engine that the LS should have come with!! My only gripe is that the GSR 5th gear spins at 4k @ 80 mph, which can get a little loud for extended jaunts on the hwy. The high rpms in 5th gear would obviously only get worse (and louder ) with the ITR tranny.
The swap is brand new, hence I haven't taken it to the strip yet.

have a buddy whos got a b20b w/ ls tranny in a DA, loves the torque, hates the topend. good daily driver.
I'm confused as to how he can hate the top end since the B20 makes more torque (15-20 lb/ft) from 3,500 - redline than my LS with the same mods. On the dyno chart the power curve's shape is nearly identical, the tq values are just higher up at every rpm after 3k.
As for top end...I'm making ~20whp more with the B20z block than I did with my LS block. So its far from being the same in the top end.

I have a B20z with a B16 tranny...I didn't drive very long (had to store it fot the winter) but from what I see it's great for acceleration but on the highway the rpm is going to be high meaning burning more gas but you can't have everything in life.

I have a B20z in my 98 hatch. With a GSR tranny, SI intake tube w/K&N drop-in filter, US Type R header + catback...i whoop on most SI's and B16's swap from 0-80mph..lol, and hang with GSR's....
I've read some where you can install a LS fifth gear on a GSR tranny. That's an interesting thought to consider.

I have a B20 in my 91 CRX> I love it. It tends to run out of punch at the top end of third tho. No problem, Ill be boosting soon.... Anyways, all around great motor, Im really quite happy with it. Times and mods are on my web page.

I ran a 14.2 corrected for altitude on 14in azenis in my 93 Civic EX coupe.
Set up is
B20Z with crowers 403's, retainers, valve springs, skunk2 intake manifold, chipped ls ecu, stock ls throttle body, stock injectors, no FPR, ITR header, straight pipe, greddy sp exhaust and a GSR Tranny.
I think that is pretty good. I can not floor it on first gear no traction on the azenis. I baby 1st gear then floor it on the rest of the gears. I would have liked to try the Gforce tires but I am selling the head to go vtec now.
