B20/LS vtec owners.. are you loosing oil??
I'm just wondering if any of you B20/LS vtec owners are loosing oil pressure like me... basically about 1500 miles of driving around... my oil pressure gauge goes crazy, my check engine light comes on everytime I hit vtec... and when I hit vtec.. my oil pressure only reads 40.. instead of close to 45... which indicates that I'm loosing oil or lost some oil..
NEways, is there a way for this not to happen again.. I was thinking if I add an oil cooler.. that it would fix the problem... I just recently changed my oil pan gasket, head gasket, valve cover gasket... I see no leaks.. anywhere... please give me some input if this has happened to you or still happening to you.. maybe its normal.. I dunno.. and if you guys found a way to stop this from happening.. thanks people of H-T..

i have a similar problem with loss of oil, especially after long highway trips, i usually have to add a quart or so.... i spoke to some people who said i may need a breather kit for the block.. i should be getting one soon. i'll let u know how it turns out.

my engine a few months ago..
my engine now with the new valve cover color..
but anyways.. do u think installing a oil cooler would help..

a friend of mine was losing oil pressure on his ls/vtec because he had the head and turbo oil supply coming off the back of the block. To fix this he bought the golden eagle sandwich and it hasn't leaked since. If you guys are losing oil you may be burning it up or something on the head has to be leaking

oil cooler would be the solution. the ls/b20 lack of oil squirters allow for higher piston temps, which will eventually lead to burning oil easier. thats why alot of ls/b20 vtec guys burn their piston rings quick. cooler oil will be thicker and nicer on your now higher reving engines.

Same thing was happening to me also. With all the brass fittings for the oil pressure sender and the line for Vtec, they started weighing down on the tap in the back of the block. Eventually it was going to come loose. GE sandwich plate mentioned worked for me. No more oil pressure drop and vtec engages properly now.

Ls/CRV vtec has more crankcase pressure. chances are its pissing out the valve cover breather. I had one of those little filters on. If i go throught the gears I can smell oil. I open my hood theres oil all over my fuel rail and the breather is dripping.... Im getting sick of adding oil in all the time. Time to invest in an overflow tank. Once its full dump it back in!

Re: (LsVtec92Hatch)
thats what I thought untill I read the article on theoldone.com. thats endyne'site. ls/especially b20vtec's have more crankcase pressure. thats why thy sell those fittings and hoses for the front of the valve cover. (lol forget what they are called)

40-45 psi, christ, my motor runs 80 psi at 4k, and 26 at idle, something is not right with your build

Re: B20/LS vtec owners.. are you loosing oil?? (PURPLETERROR)
damn.. its been half a year and I still haven't installed my oil cooler kit... all I did was get a 3 angle valve job on my b16 head.. and that helped out a alot.. I still burn oil but its takes me 1 month to add just a quart of oil.. I usually change my oil every 2 months or so..
thanks guys.. sorry for the late update on things..

Re: B20/LS vtec owners.. are you loosing oil?? (Mr_WETTY)
My LsVtec rarely burns any oil, just a bit when VTEC engages (from what my friends tell me).
I also have the fittings on the back of my block T'd off w/ the oil pressure sending unit. Is there any problem with that, I use to hear something about it would crack the block from pressure after a while but dont know if there is any truth to it?
I am in the process of building a 2nd ls block to install in a few weeks when twopoint2eg comes home and was wondering of any tips on this build. i.e. : Oil Cooler or Catch Can?
Also, that hose that you guys mentioned thats welded to the front of the valve cover or drag setups, it has a ss braided line that goes from the valve cover to the header, is thats what your talking about, and if so what its purpose?

my car burns oil whenever Vtec kicks in.. thats a normal thing to happen.. I have a Catch can, Oil breather canister.. .. and my oil cooler isn't installed yet.. I don't have that ss braided line on my valve cover...

oil consumption depends on the motor,
YOU are probably burning it or its escaping somewhere....40 psi, that is some serious problem...my b20 at WOT is at 80-85psi. im losing oil but due to a leaking head gasket...no matter how much oil i have in the car...the pressure should still be the same...

Re: (Supah_Eg6)
My Ls/Vtec too burns oil. After a near over heating condition, I started to burn oil alot; only during lapping sessions. We think that my rings were toasted abit. I burn 1 liter per 20 minutes of lapping!
I have an oil cooler and did not see any difference in oil consumption. 80 psi should be read. When I get to 40 psi during a hard turn, that is when I get off the track to refill with oil.
Maybe thicker oil can solve some problems?
