Who has done it? Is it safe to go out 1mm on a b20 w/stock sleeves?

Stop trying to be cool mike. I know more about motors than you do. Hey mike, who designed your setup? Oh, and you don't know if 85mm is safe or not, so please don't post use less info!

Its ok.. but for NA only. If 85 is the only size pistons you can get, then it will be ok. I'd rather stick with 84.5mm though. On turbo, do not use 85.

Mike, you have only taken apart 1 honda motor. I have tore apart many non-honda motors. Im sure a honda motor wouldn't be to hard.

Yes, that is the main reason, JE dosen't like to make 84.5mm pistons cause they don't make 84.5mm rings. They will make the 85mm though.

85mm should be the abosulte max you should go. any bigger and you might be have head gasket sealing problems (read blown head gaskets). i would say just go 84.5mm so that way you have some slack just in case if you ever need to bore/hone it any more. (piston to wall contact, etc)

i've done it.....but i'm still in building stages...but no head gasket problems here..i'm using a Cometic gasket though for b20vtec w/85mm bore, and i'm using JE's 85mm 12.5:1 pistons.

Hey, do you have your setup together yet? It looks like you have the exact setup Im planning. How much power are you planning on making?

it's almost done together...another 2weeks to go..i plan on making at least 250 @ wheels..and from seeing results from importreview.com..i dont' think it's gonna be a problem!
the only difference between this setup and mine, is i'm using 12.5:1 85mm piston, skunk2 s_2 Cams, and a Alaniz Head opposed to a Portflow Head...i decided to go with Jose Alaniz...since he did do the world's fastest n/a Civic of Erick Aguilar (10.60 @127.00mph)...and also i'm using a JG/Edelbrock header opposed to the SMSP..but a SMSP Header is in the works for me!

good luck on ur's since were on the same boat!

thanks.

I sent my head to Joe too....I'm sure he does good work, but a local head guy looked at it and pointed out a few NONOs right off. #1 was cut off exhaust valve guides. I am going to have them removed and new ones installed. I called joe about it and he said that is the all his heads are....but don't expect 100k out of the motor. Well, I think I'll put in the new guides and get a little more reliabliltiy out of it.

What stage are you guys have Joe do on your heads? The full blue print competetion head work? I want to have my head done by him, but since my head has been p & p already, he won't touch it. If I wanted, I could find some old b16a bare head for cheep that has not been touched by a machine shop.
