i would definately choose the b20 block over the C5 anyday of the week......if ur gonna use stock sleeves then the b20's got more chance of power and torque.....but resleeving wouldn't matter which one u choose but the b20 will still have a little more tq.........

C5. The b20 has weaker side walls so if you plan on boosting over 10psi or having higher compression (>12:1), you would need to get it sleeved.

You can just swap blocks, but you'll get more power if you at least go with some higher compression pistions.
Also, in order to swap the b20 block in, you'll need all the regular b20/vtec oil lines and fittings for the head.

THE LOVELY SET UP WOULD BE
ur head (b16 )
b20 block with a set of 84 mml PCT pistons ( if they even make it )
set of eagle rods

now that would be nice it would walk over the c5 anytime

my suggestion would be to use a regular b18c block... cheaper than the c5 block... not as much work as the b20 block... think about it, it's almost the exact same thing as the c5 block anyway... do that... combine it with some pr3 pistons out of a jdm b16... and almost the same thing as a complete c5 motor... minus a couple things from the head...

i'll be the first to say this, do some research. It all depends on what you want. If you want to turbo later on and have the money to build a mild all motor now then do that. The block is really up to preference. If you want to build a mild motor that can rev high, then i would go with the C5. I dont know what your preference is so yeah. Personally I dont have the money to build a mild motor and then turbo. Its a lot of money tearing down the motor twice to replace the high comp pistons with low comp pistons for turbo. But as i said before research and do whatever you want, thats the important thing in the long run

How much cash do you have? and how much would you sell your si short block for? All you will need off your original motor is the head and tranny so the block should be cool. If you plan on doing pistons and rods I have a hare ITR shortblock I'll sell you for 500..

do a search for a compression calculator... a b18c1 block with b16 head + pr3 pistons yields almost the exact compression ratio... infact maybe even just a little higher than the c5... plus no one is going to argue that a b18c1 block will have issues revving beyond whatever... take the extra cash, add a little something, something to the b16 head, and you're way better off than spending all that into just the b18c5 block. I think you'll appreciate the $$$ being spent on the head. That's where you're going to see more gains. The compression ratio on either setup is going to already be around 11:4....But if you got the cash and absolutley must have a c5 block, then get the c5.

This will make the b20 swap pretty much as easy as you can get it.

I will be soon getting a b18c5 block for my a2. It will work good for my application because I will be turboing it and then fully building then motor. go c5
