B18C4 (B18C1) Swap Problems, Wont Start but have Fuel and Spark
Right i need some help
I have just swapped a b18c4 (uk version of B18C1) into an EK and cannot get it to start
I am stumped into as way
Have have checked all i can think of and it doesn't change anything
- I have fuel and have a spark
- Running a P28 with a B18C4 map
- Have put new earth leads on, cleaned them all up including the thermostat ground.
- New plugs (correct gap), checked leads
- New rotor arm and new dizzy cap
- checked the cam timing (it was out but fixed that)
- played with the ignition timing
- 1 CEL for o2 sensor (away to sort that but it should still start)
Dont know what else to do
Anyone got any ideas ??

youll get more help if you post in the 92-00 civic section but are you using a stock fuel rail with a stock fuel pressure regulator?

Yes i am using a stock fpr and fuel rail
i have also tried with a frp and set it between 3 and 4 bar but that didnt help
Could a mod please move this into the correct section please

do you have all the major grounds wired up? transmission to chasis, head to chasis, and thermostat grounds

Do you hear the fuel pump?
do tou use OBD2 to OBD1 harness?
did you check Crash saftety switch somewhere on the dash board (can't remenber where)?

The only other ecu i have is for a d16y8 and i assume that will be no use since its for a SOHC
Yeah it primes ok and is pressuring up
and yes i have used a conversion harness
as for the crash saftey switch, i have never heard of it but will go and do a bit of researech on it. Anyone got anymore info on it ?

Is it cranking and not starting or are you not even getting any cranking at all?
If it's cranking and not starting yea, i'm thinking ECU or even the Timing is off...

Single cam computer? I highly doubt that..
You should try the Stock ECU if anything else..
If not the ECU dude i'm thinking the timings off. You have Fuel, Spark, and Cranking but no Life..see what's good with that timing.

Just done a compression test the results are
No. 1 = 202psi
No. 2 = 208psi
No. 3 = 202psi
No. 4 = 202psi
So everything looks fine their
Dont know what else to look at

How old is the gas in your tank? if it's old maybe it's stale?
is your harness a vtec harness or non-vtec harness?
Troubleshooting for Engine Won't Start...
1. Check Ignition System
2. Fuel Pressure
3. PGM-FI Main Relay
4. Crankshaft Position/Top Dead Center/Cylinder Position sensor circuit/CFK sensor circuit (CKF Sensor isn't used on OBD1 ECUs, so that shouldn't matter, the others will though)
5. Contaminated Fuel
6. Clutch Switch Signal (Should be okay if it cranks over, but wouldn't hurt to check)
7. Check Engine Control Module (ECM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
8. Check Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
9. Check Air Cleaner
10. Check Barometric pressure (BARO) sensor
11. Check Evaporative emission (EVAP) control
Other Probable Causesfor an engine that will not start:
- Compression
- Intake Air Leakage
- Engine locked up
- Timing Belt
- Starting System
- Overheating
- Battery

try rotating your distributor forward or backwards... also make sure your plugs are in the correct order...
