B18c into eg Overheat help-conquer that thermostat!
alright honda-tech'rs,
I was wondering if anyone might know why my engine overheated...
Its a b18c- here's what happened. I went to the store and when i got in the parking lot, i heard a high pitched noise(real high pitched <a little like bad brake pads, but under the hood>, i thought it was another car so i didnt think much of it.
Then an hour later, when i went to drive home the engine was overheating so i stopped and opened the hood. As i opened it smoke started to come out because coolant was pouring out of a crack in the lower radiator hose.
i got a new hose, started the car and the coolant doesnt leak. but when i touch the hose it feels really, really hot. I also hear this high pitched noise (coming loudest from the intake tube<i hear it loudest when i listen from the intake>...Any help or suggestions as to what is causing this heating??

seeing as its an overheating issue, it would have nothing to do with your intake, even if it does sound like its coming from there. check the thermostat, and water pump.

Ohh, so,k , it was the thermostat. I listened closely to it as i turned the engine on and heard rattling coming from the thermostat. My intake has a tube that connects to the thermostat housing at one section, no wonder i heard the high pitched noise. It's ultimately playing a part in the fact that my fan didn't turn on. I'll take it out and replace it. And would you think, a 6$ piece of equipment would cause so much trouble?! By the way, thanks again guys. -water pumps good guy

The thermostat allows coolant to flow to the radiator, where heat transfer takes place(fan), effectively monitoring the coolant temp(keeps it not too hot, and not too cold). if the thermostat doesn't open, coolant is not allowed to pass to the radiator. if the thermostat doesn't open at the right temp, its not telling the ecu what the right temp is.
