Default B18c EF is done. driving impressions.

Just finished up my b18c EF civic last night. It wasnt an easy project. After replacing three sensors (TPS, MAP, and IAT) i turned her on....no check engine light. The USDM OBDII motor has been rewired for OBD0 using my old b16a1 stuff. So....no more codes..and i finally got VTEC. That bitch pulls!!! With just I/H/E. The difference compared to my old b16 is very noticeable. more TOURQUE! I could not make it bog, even taking off from idle. Im very pleased with the result. The car is a 4 door civic, and my best with the b16a1 was a 14.8 with full interior. Il be going to Fontana soon and im hoping for low 14's as long as i get traction. Its not easy taking off without wheel spin. Anyway..ill have pics up this evening. Oh, and that intake manifold is a pain in the ***. I was wondering if a b16a1 intake manifold will fit. It would better, not look as gay, and maybe i wont have to relocate my battery to the trunk to make my intake fit. Someone told me that the GSR intake studs are slightly offset, so i dont know. Aight.

gsr heads are made out of a different cast than the b16/type r heads...
to make the intake manifold work, you would have to get it port matched, just get a skunk2 manifold for the gsr and you will be fine

14.4 in a rex? Hmmmm. Im hoping to hit 14.2-14.3 in full trim. Its hard as hell to launch without losing traction. BAH! But hey, OBd0 b18's should have the advantage over OBDI right? I got NO smog on that thing, no EGR, no nothin. Before i pulled the motor out of the sellers EF i took it for a spin, it was wired OBdI with a p28 mugen chipped ECU. It feels faster in my car though, with the PR3. Its not hard to wire it up OBD0, and mine runs clean now that the sensors are fixed.

well, at first it gave 5 codes, but that was because of my own negligence. The TPS was in backwards, the IAT was misplugged, and i had to replace my MAP, and run a new wire to the vtec pressure plug. But now there is zero codes, it idles fine and drives excellent.

I'm about to do the same swap in 2 weeks. I hope I'm impressed with the performance of it, I'm sure I will though. Everytime I drive my girlfriends GSR I fall in love with the torque of it. I guess I'm used to 1.6 liters. Have fun!

Did you only pick up the longblock or an entire GSR engine?

congrats!

skunk2 i.m is your best bet.

if you can weld aluminum, you can mod the B16 i.m. to the gsr i.m. mounting plate.
because the stud pattern is different AND because the location of the runners is different (vertically) along the side of the head.

Entire GSR longblock. Oh, and trust me its way better then a b16. The tourque is really nice, especially on a light car. it makes daily commuting fun.

Yes, not to flame but that is SLOW in a rex! My 94 GS-R 135k on engine, full interior, stock susp, stock rims on Continental All season tires, and i/h/e went 14.621 @ 95.80 mph with 3/4 tank of gas. You should be doing high 13's. There are B18A/B ef's running your B18C times with bolt-on's and susp. mods. Is it a tired B18C?

Bought from another EF owner. Pulled it out of his car, installed it into mine, even installed a beater d15 motor into his. Paid less then 3000 and more then 2000 lets leave it at that.
