Default B17 EF wiring Harnes question

Hey guys new to the forum,
I own a 1989 civic dx which I'm swapping a b17 gsr engine into. Iv been doing some research and noticing people always using the harness which came with there car , not the engine. Why is this? 3 years ago I swapped a sr20 into my old 240sx and just modified the jdm 180sx engine harness to fit the Usdm 240sx body harness, why isn't this the case with Hondas?
Thanks!

Check the EF forum FAQ for DPFI to MPFI. The DX model, along with others, had the dual point fuel injection and needs to be converted to multipoint fuel injection. The B17 is also OBD1 so you'll more than likely also need to convert to OBD1 using an ECU adapter harness along with some other modifications. But check in the FAQ as there are tons of write ups on it. Either way you can't use the B17 harness without a good amount of wiring. It gets much easier for the 92-95 Civics as the engine harnesses can be used for the most part and then gets a little more tricky again for 96-00 Civics.

Awesome I'll check that out! Still curious to know why I wouldn't just use the b17 harness instead of modifying my existing dx harness, just seems like excessive work

The plugs at the shock towers won't work. One is obd1 and the other obd0. If you're up for it you could swap all the plugs over and add the necessary wires. People have done it but it's takes patience and some research.

JDM harnesses don't work because they're almost but not quite a mirror image of a USDM harness.

In your case using the Integra harness wont work because as said it wont plug into the shock tower plugs.

The easiest thing to do is convert to OBD0 MPFI and run an OBD0 B16A distributor, injectors and ECU.
