b16a2 in 96 ek hatch
I put a B16A2 out of my 99 Si into my 96DX hatchback. Everything is great but the tach and speedo DO NOT work. I am using the engine harness from the 99 si and ecu. I cluster is from the Si and it lights up and the gas and temp gauge work. Whats wrong>?

Your Tach is not working due to the difference in versions of On Board Diagnostics. You have a Obd2-a car with a Obd2-b engine harness and ecu controlling it. The easiest way to get your Tach to work is to just wire it up. Other wise you are going to either have to change your engine harness and ecu or change your dash harness and heater controls. I would just get a wiring schematic and wire up the tach in the cluster and be done with it.

You could also buy an obd2-1 to obd2-b conversion harness and save yourself a lot of trouble. I think they run like 100 shipped from boomslang.

that will not work, u need to get a 96-98 ex harness... you can't just wire the tach up there are other things that are different!

I know this but if all he is concerned about is the tach then he can just wire it up. Dont tell me it wont work or it cant be done cause I have done it. Besides I am pretty sure I stated that getting a 96-98 ex harness was an option in my first post.

that won't work either cause its the dash harness thats different, get the ex harness if u want to do it right , don't hack your wiring up trying to fix stuff cause you used the wrong harness

I agree. I wasnt thinking when I said use the conversion harness. Hes just gonna have to suck it up and either change the engine harness and ecu or the dash harness and heater controls.
